in other news. Kitty Pryde fic. (no, this is not BSG crossover smut)
Disclaimer: Not mine. Rating: Er. Bad language. A little violence.
Set: Kitty's in Chicago, so, before whatever crapBuffyKitty's doing now.
Notes: erm. Is short.

It was a beautiful spring day.
Kitty Pryde had her face raised to the sun, enjoying the warmth after the cold of the recent winter.
A child shrieked nearby, and she chuckled, turned towards it, and froze.
There was a man with a gun.
She couldn't take in the details fast enough, could see the child (girl, young woman, younger than Kitty but just as tall) running towards her and phased instinctively. The girl passed through her. And the man blinked, raised his gun, sighted, and fired.
Bang.
If she'd been close enough, she could have phased the gun out of his hand. But it was already firing, and she couldn't phase a bullet flying through the air, and she wasn't close enough to the girl to phase her, although the girl had stopped in confusion at not having run into Kitty.
For an instant, she could see the path the bullet would take.
If she phased, it would hit the girl who shouldn't have stopped (don't they tell you to keep running forever?).
Kitty didn't phase.
The impact spun her half-way around and into the girl who'd stopped. They went down in a tangle, the girl shrieking something unintelligible while Kitty grasped feebly for the control she desperately needed.
Click.
The sound of the hammer cocking gave her enough adrenaline, and the impetus drove her over the edge.
Even as he fired, she phased them both.
Bang.
"Shit."
Bang.
"What the fuck?"
Bang.
He couldn't keep this up (she couldn't keep this up, her world was edging gray and the girl was still screaming and screaming).
Bang.
Sirens in the distance.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck."
Something passed through their legs as he tried to kick them and hit only displaced molecules.
The sirens were louder (holdonholdonholdon).
"Oh my god!"
Sound cut back in, then back out.
Sirens.
(I'm bleeding)
The world goes gray.
Hands grasped her, trying to hold on and she slithered away, "Miss! You need--"
"Oh my god, she's a mutant!"
Kitty snapped back into reality and stopped phasing. "The girl, is she?"
"She's fine."
"Good." Her world went gray. "I'm going to pass out now, 'kay thanks."
Bang.
