So, there was this Doctor Who/SG-1 crossover plotbunny offered on a list. And the stipulation was that it could "be slash or gen... whatever you want". Now, if I were handing out a plotbunny, my stipulation would have been "here. Make it anything you want." But, obviously, hetship isn't good enough for people. It must be slash or gen, or they just don't wanna hear about it.
This does, however, make me want to write a horribly hetshippy DW/SG-1 crossover.
Dr. Grace Holloway becomes the new specialist surgeon assigned to the SGC.... After all, she'd be perfect. She's already encountered the strange and paranormal.
(btw, there's a fairly decent one up on ff'net that's FourthDoc, and borrows Pyramids of Mars lexiconography...)

Oh that really depends who you ask...

In SG-1, it means, "story that focuses on Jack, Daniel and Teal'c, and maybe mentions Sam a little, but there isn't ANY possibility of their being undertones of Jack or Sam being attracted to each other. And it has to have Daniel and Jack as Best Buddies and talking all of the time."
er... That may be stretching it.

Can we use the same strange logic to accuse the people who only write slash of being heterophobic? ;)

Back to the drawing board then... ;)

It's just an added bonus that it annoys some people that I don't make more Daniel icons. ::smirk::

Considering that I (as someone who writes ACTUAL gen) get cranky about the whole gen=het thing, I just wanted to make sure we were mocking this person for the right reason. ;->
the idea of Grace Holloway as the newest doctor attached the SGC had to be shared....
Well, duh. *eg*

From what I've come across 'gen' seems to include slash ust but god forbid it have any suggestion of het ust.
I actually left a group that was supposedly strictly 'gen only' because whilst I was told to keep my ship out of it in the same breath the mod was talking about how cute a couple Jack and Daniel would make.
It was less a case of 'no ship' as '*which* ship'.
But that's just my own bad fandom experience.
Of which we all have at least a dozen I'm sure. :)

Where as mostly I've run into the opposite. *shrug* It's damned annoying either way. Somewhere along the line, the environments in which I could mention working on fic and not have the first question be "What pairing?" got really, really scarce. :-/

Thing is, though, in some fandoms "gen" is used to mean "het." In the Xena fanfic world, for example, they use "alt" and "gen." I've only rarely seen "slash" or "het" used in Xena archives.

SGA goes through Stargate, explore a planet, maybe old friends of Teyla's, whatever. Once through, however, the inhabitants are unsurprised by SGA personnel and explain that they've had 'other' visitors from far away trying to trade there too. SGA meets visitors.
And then there was something about Munch and Mulder, and brief divergence into a Law and Order dream, with X-Files people in it. And a brief Picard appearance, because, you know--this is MY dream. ;)
Then back into wierd SGA dream. SGA is now on the world where the 'other visitors' are from, and it turns out that there's a colony on this world that's a combination of descendants of an Earth space shuttle and the previous inhabitants.
And more strangeness occurs, because this is a dream, but the part that was plot-bunnyish was that it is discovered that these 'other visitors' ARE from Earth, but from an alternate universe, where Things are Not Good, and they fled in their little space shuttle, and went through a wormhole that sent them to the Pegasus galaxy. And somehow then they ended up finding something that sent them to the Stargate universe, and now they're fighting the Wraith with the SGA crew. And it's all very odd, because they're from a NotGood alternate universe place, and social and moral conventions are quite different there.
Anyway, I completely illogically place all the blame for this on you, simply because I was surfing for SGA fic off of some of your links last night.
So there. Evil Lyssie, making me dream of strange bizzare SGA plot-bunnies that I'll never write because I don't even WRITE SG fic! :)
(goes back to rummaging for more SGA fic)

Erm. Liz, Qwirky, pellmelody are all good, and there's always John_Elizabeth, I suppose.
Not sure on the Teyla/Shep side.
As for your dream. HAH!

I, on the other hand, have an issue with slash/het/gen labels, because in my mind, gen can include het or slash -- it depends on whether it's a story about a character that happens to include pairings, or a story about the characters through the pairings.
If that makes any sense.
