I'm pissed that they couldn't keep the lid on that for another month or three. It's going to KILL the generated interest - no matter his reasons, the public are going to think 'well, that's not a good sign' and stop watching.

I'm so not impressed with the excuses. Hello? This is DOCTOR WHO we're talking about. You CANNOT think he didn't know what he was signing up to do. Gruelling schedule, my arse. Soap actors manage it day in, day out. 90% of acting is sitting around waiting for stuff to get set up. It's not like we're filming Lord of the Rings, for crying out loud.
