So.... Kikoween
Yes....
The weekend started on Friday, as I frantcially ran around town trying to get all of my shopping done. See, I don't get paid until Thursday night... And, while direct deposit sounds lovely, I'm leery of giving that sort of info to the small group of people who would have it--namely a Condo Association who are all pretty fucked in the head.
I got the last things needed at the Dollar Store--Glow sticks. And then remembered I desperately needed skull earings. Since I'd remembered to check, they didn't have them at Walgreens or Wal-Mart.
Johnnie Brock's was up the road, so, even though I was running about half an hour late, I drove up. Found my earings. Lovely sickle-y things that dangle and have tiny skulls on them. Hee. AND, a nice knife pendant with skull (little ruby eyes!) and chain.
Then it was onto the highway and across the bridge to IL...
Four hours or so later, I hit rush hour traffic. Icky. Then I had to drive in downtown Chicago. Ickier. Spent half an hour (I kept having to go round the block... Lyssie hasn't driven in the city in a LONG time...) searching for a parking space. Found one. Popped 75 cents into the meter... See, my theory is, if I only pay a dollar (or less), it's worth it. Especially since the other places to park were something like 6 bucks an hour.
Trooped up to Drea's building--four blocks or so--grooved in. Found Drea and a Times. Hee.
Was pounced, visited Psychocat, then headed back out to my car.
Had to repack, since my own skills suck. The trunk was loaded, the backseat was stashed with stuff.... And Drea was buried in cds.
What I remember of the drive is... Driving, driving, stopping for potty breaks, sleeping a bit, getting gas.... and snow.
Snow.
Big, white, fluffy flakes of it.
Picture this: we'd pulled into a rest area to switch drivers--it'd been raining ickily, and Drea was tired of it. We get out of the car. Little flakes of white stuff are falling on us. A glance around proves this is not the first of it, as several cars are COATED in snow.
I got to drive until after Pittsburgh (this'd been just above Akron, Ohio, iirc). With intermittant snow hitting the windshield. At night.... On mountainous roads....
blah, blah, blah.
Snow, at this time of year, was a shock to me. Sort of.
I'm digressing.
We stopped for breakfast, scared the waitress, and came up with several frightening ideas about Cable.
Afterwards, I fell asleep until we were nearly in New Jersey.
Got there. Got lost. Couldn't figure this out at first, but we're smart, even after driving for 14 hours...
OH! I forgot the sunrise. It was absolutely fabulous.
Of course, all through the trip, we'd talked and giggled--PerK, I'm surprised your ears aren't permanently red with all the stuff we said about you. *eg*
Got to Kiko's. Was hugged by Wire, who looks thinner and younger than last I saw him (two years ago?). Was half-tackled by the Amazing Zooming Kiko, who stood out in the cold and shivered in her nightie.
Met Foe and Speedy (who we sorta woke up. Tee. Hee.) and Stacy, who came back looking pressed and squeaky clean.
Then Alec, Stacy and Speedy left to get Tangles...
And I dyed my hair black. Hee.
When they got back with Tangles.... I will be forever grateful to Alec's doubletake. *g* Nice ego boost, since I like shocking people.
Instead of being sensible people, and sleeping, we sat and stood around chattering like magpies. After a while, people started showing up--RedMonster, Quille, Tangles....
About mid-afternoon, we all decided to get tarted up, and did so. I looked smashing, as always. Times looked good as Dom. Is sort of scary, really. Tangles wore a dalmation costume. Hee. Wascute.
Kiko looked intriguing, even if I can't remember her costume title. RedMonster was lovely as a mermaid (and in the cold, too!). Quille... Quille was SO dead-on as Anna Paquin's Rogue, it was VERY scary.... Quille also purrs.
It's a very frightening idea, Alec as a reverend. But he makes a damned cute one. *g*
Drea was very shiny and sparkly in her Tooth Fairy costume. And poor Hly, whose costume broke, looked cute in Ren garb.
*distracted*
Let me just note. The sleeves for my costume, which have been mentioned here and there, look awesome. They're niftykeenoneato. Except for one thing. They. Itch. I washed the lace before making them, in hopes it would soften a bit, and be less itchy. Didn't help.
Ohwell. They look damned cool.
I am missing costumes, I'm sure of it. I just.... Don't remember too much any more.
Frito, Nute, Redhawk, Smoot and IndiJ showed up about then. And we all hit the mall together, along with some of Kiko's local friends.
We scared the mundanes, of course. I am a happy Lyss about this. We even scared some people in the comics store. Hee.
OK. Then there was this bit where we were all meeting to go back together, with our cars... And, well... We got a little mixed up.
And I drove off without Hly.
Didn't mean to. But it happened. Bad Lyssie.
Got back to Kiko's, and decided to watch a movie. They put in the Skulls.
And, well.... From the opening credits, I was yawning. I was, in fact, muttering, "Bored now." for the first five. Then I got smart and went and took a nap on Kiko's bed. Mm. Sleeeeep.
Sleepsleepsleep.
Woke up to Kiko saying something about... something. Ah. The bonfire. Which was why I'd been bored with the movie. I like fire. Fire good.
The fire was started, and it slowly roared to life... It's been a while since I had a real campfire to play with. Except no one had brought marshmallows. Pfft. Not that it would have mattered, since the stupid neighbors shut us down quickly. Sigh.
It was a fairly decent fire, too. And fun to be around.
We trooped back in, chatted some more, laughed a lot... And Nute, Frito, Red, Smoot and IndiJ left. Sigh.
Someone started watching Evil Dead 2... I think. And we called Indigo to make sure she was all right. She was.
After ED2, there was a lot of discussion on what to watch--hang on, this may have happened before they left. Hrm.
Anyway.
At some point, Indi called and said she'd be there soon. So Kiko and Paul and Quille and I wandered outside to wait for her. In the cold.
Windy as it was, it was rather neat. Even if I did end up raiding my trunk for warmer clothes.
By this time, I'd removed the sleeves, but kept the rest of the costume on.
Once Indi arrived, a bunch of us realised we hadn't eaten in ages, and went to the diner for dinner.
There we witnessed a drunk guy getting dragged around by his girlfriend--said drunken idiot proceeded to start a fight outside... And there were lots of lovely dresses, since there had been a prom or something locally.
We ate yummy food, then all staggered back and decided to go to bed.
-=-=-
As is my wont, I awoke rather early, despite all the sleeplessness and the floor being hard. Indi was walking in as I did so, we waved to each other. Someone else was up, but I can't remember who. Quille, maybe?
Unfortunately, those of us awake had NO consideration for the other lazy sleepy people. Within minutes, we were all chattering away madly.
Wire eventually woke up and accused us all of snoring too loudly. *sniff* As if.
Time was spent letting everyone awaken and dress, then we drove off to the Diner, for breakfast.
Oh. Did I forget to mention the fridge? Just about every single person brought booze. This means that, by the time we were watching the Skulls, there was a full refrigerator. Of booze. Mostly wine coolers and some nasty beer, but.... Tons of alcohol. Mm.
Anyway. The Diner was packed, so we went somewhere else. And this place was much cooler. The manager guy liked us, posed for pics with us, and wore Kiko's hat. Hee. And our waitress was superb.
Went back to the apartment, and chatted, watched Pryde of the X-Men (which I'd never seen) and started watching Generation X... About then, I was sleepy again. Missed some things, but I know people began leaving.
Indi, for one. And RedMonster and Stacy and Foe. And Quille. *sniffle*
Those of us left sat around and talked and talked. And then Tangles had to leave. *sob*
It was then we learned that Alec purrs... o.O
There was also much molesting.... And then we had pizza.
After I got us lost between the grocery store and the pizza place. Oops.
Then Alec left. And came back. And left again.
And it was... a quiet apartment. I felt a little sad that all of them had left. I felt even sadder that we would be leaving in the morning.
This weekend was something I had needed. People to cuddle up with and snuggle, and just generally talk about ANY shit we thought of... It's like #subcafe, but in person. It was very fucking cool.
=-=-=-
We got up before the sun did, and staggered out to the car. Drea drove the first leg--through which I slept.
I don't want to incriminate myself. Just... Suffice it to say, a trip we thought would take 14 hours took 11...
I had a Drea and a Times in my car. And then I didn't.
I was alone again. To face...
Rush hour traffic.
Good thing we got in early. Otherwise, I would have been late to work.
*sniffle*
This is not complete. There's various things I've forgotten. Little things, like Speedy glaring as Foe took the last of the coffee. Drea turning bright red over her 'breath control' comment... Kiko dancing around half-naked. Wire dancing and scaring everyone... My dad making me get numbers to half the people in New Jersey.... Okay, that's an over-exageration...
More, later. Maybe.
