lyssie: (Daniel - Uh. Right. Jack.)

just for nos'

More reasons why I disliked Threads... (including Jack ones)

14. If Oma is manipulative, I suppose that means Jack is, too. He's let her dangle on this thread forever and ever believing he might have feelings for her, but she's tried to move on, and can't (she chose a bad person). And when Sam comes to him for something, he always gives her non answers. "I wouldn't be here." WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT MEAN?

15. Hey, Jack! Guess what, just because you have Issues doesn't mean you're not supposed to be an adult about shit! If you want Carter, tell her! Quite letting her dangle in the wind! And if you want Daniel, tell Carter she's not the one for you, but you can still be friends!

16. Kerry. I know I mentioned her before, but she bears repeating. Why does everyone love her, but hate Pete? Oh, wait, that's right. because she's a Mary Sue.

17. The occasionally snappy dialogue really didn't save this episode (now I want to re-write it, so, y'know, it's interesting).

18. Anubis, in the diner. It reminds me of Chimera, when the entire 'mystery' was fucked in the ass because we knew from the beginning that Osiris was fucking Daniel over.

19... I may be out of steam.

I fucking hate fandom. And Jack is a bastard.

Fuck's sake, if someone fancies someone else you'd tell them to Talk To Them. And then think there was something amiss if the other person refused to be drawn either way.

Of course, all I really want is for them to be all professional at work, and then go off and shag like rabbits...

And I honestly don't need huge, sweeping declarations. But something telling me that what Jack feels isn't just affection for a friend... would be nice. Or, y'know, that he's humoring her.

...oo.

*pets Nos* I kind of hated your "We win at canon" post, but I totally agree our side of fandom is being hypocritical right now. Yeah, we want Sam to move on. Yeah, I think Jack has moved on. But he's also chickenshit for not making that clear to her. Whatever his feelings may be.

[identity profile] nostalgia-lj.livejournal.com 2005-03-12 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
I was mean re: winning. I was sick of the ambiguity. I am shocked that people still bring it up with stuff like "that time all the shippers said they'd won". Umm... I feel bad about that? Even though we did win. And by we I mean the Jack/Thor people.

But, yeah ono hypocrisy. It's safe to lay into Sam because she is a) not in the OTP and b) the biggest threat to it. Gah.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2005-03-12 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the sad thing is that unless they actually have some sort of on-screen thing, we haven't exactly won (it's still fun to say, and since I can't say it for Kitty Pryde/Pete Wisdom--who haven't spoken canonically for seven years, and she thinks he's dead anyway--I'll probably occasionally carole it for, uh, Sam/Jack).

*mutters* Y'know, I flonqing hate comparisons between Farscape and SG-1, but for once, I think they should've used the FS model.

Let them be adults about their emotions, and deal with them.

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, emotional maturity. That'd be nice, huh?

Not that they didn't do it without a lot of dragging and angsting and hemming and hawing. Been when they decided to do something, they didn't back away from it, just to please all of their fans... *mutters*

(I have a lot of issues. Either that, or I need chocolate. Hrm.)

Jack pisses me off SO much, because he's like just about every ex I have. He's never going to say anything concrete, because that way he can still have plausible deniability, but also have her to fall back on.

[identity profile] nostalgia-lj.livejournal.com 2005-03-12 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah. She's as much his safe bet as he is hers. But she at least knows this and tries to move on properly.

[identity profile] destina.livejournal.com 2005-03-12 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
but also have her to fall back on.

See, I don't get that. I don't see him doing this in canon, ever. Can you give me an example of what you mean?

[identity profile] rosewildeirish.livejournal.com 2005-03-12 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
How about in Threads, when he basically bolts from bed with Kerry to be there for Carter?

...that's a measure of it. Plus, I have the feeling he enjoyed Kerry, but didn't want anything more than fun!sex and casual dating. So, Carter=safety in more ways than one.

[identity profile] destina.livejournal.com 2005-03-12 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Er, but he didn't bolt to be with Carter; he went back to the base because Teal'c was back, and there was General-In-Charge Stuff to be done. It was work, not personal. I think this would have been the same if Daniel had called, or Walter...I'd imagine he gets a lot of those sort of calls. *g*

[identity profile] rosewildeirish.livejournal.com 2005-03-12 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
*headdesk* Right. Sorry.

...there's examples. I'm just too overworked (am at work now) to make the brain work to come up with 'em.

Thanks for correcting!

[identity profile] destina.livejournal.com 2005-03-12 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Argh, Saturday work sucks. :/ But if you do ever feel like chatting about this, I would truly like to hear some of those examples; I tend not to see canon support for those angles of Jack, and a different perspective is always interesting to me.

[identity profile] tafkarfanfic.livejournal.com 2005-03-12 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Mostly it's the bad writing. He never explicitly says anything one way or the other, even when she gets up the guts to tentatively ask (see the bit with her and Pete's ring).

[identity profile] nostalgia-lj.livejournal.com 2005-03-13 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
I know for I it is mostly that he looks kinda fazed that she is OMG DATING and then has OMG A RING.

[identity profile] emiwenis.livejournal.com 2005-03-12 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, people like Kerry? gross. i don't like kerry, and i dont particularly like pete even though he is a sweet guy and a cute deluise. then again i hate mary sues, but who doesn't?

i really personally liked the whole purgatory of sorts being a diner thing and anubis being that guy. ^^ i had no idea it was anubis til the first time it occurred to daniel, i thought that was neat! i like being surprised

Giggle. Quite frankly, I 've wanted to smack both of them upside the head for quite a while. They've both had their issues. Or maybe it's the writers that have issues, probably being a group of men who couldn't find the clitoris if they had a... eh, you know the rest. And maybe it's really them that I want to bitchslap. Whatever.

But you're right, this episode was like mediocre sex without the orgasm. It didn't completely suck, but it was hardly satisfying and could have been so much better.

[identity profile] nique.livejournal.com 2005-03-12 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
You know why Jack came across that way? Because the entirety of him and Sam having feelings for each other was pretty much stuffed in this episode. The only other canon shit that cannot be readily explained as a commander/subordinate friendly relationship is the bit with the Zaytarc detectors (and if I actually spelt that right, I'm going to pop off and shot myself because I've officially been watching this show too much) which were a Stupid Plot Device anyway.

I know I said I liked Kerry, and that my Threads post implies I hate Pete. I think he got off to a rocky start but is an okay guy, I just don't like him with Sam so I was excited to see him finally gone. If he'd been disposed of by the end of Chimera, I wouldn't give two-shits about him either.

[identity profile] liminalliz.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I put down my cards as a shipper furious at Jack as the ball has been in his court for so long that I don't even remember when it slid over there. And Sam has said that now she'll never get the courage up to tell him. He has to be alpha. HE HAS TO BE.

The problem is is that Moebius voids that character-need in such a way that it makes us HAPPY and SO COMPLETELY DEPRESSED AT THE SAME TIME.
