I see dead people

Including my boss. I'd love to, really. I only made it home without crashing my car through the idiots who got in my way by remembering, "I am driving somewhere this weekend."

Mangled bodies, twisted pavement, fractured glass.... Oh, my current mind's eye view of the human race is a wild frenzy of destruction.

Actually, I take it back. Only a tiny shred of sanity kept me from driving through people and cars and the Kinkos window.

Even then, the last two miles were driven with my eyes unfocussed.

Only two things kept me from quitting tonight. Well, three, but the third was incidental.

One. I'm taking care of Liz Vollmer's cats while she's gone. I can't very well abandon them. I may hate the humans in the building, but the cats and dogs have generally been nice.

Two. I get paid this week. Knowing my fuckhead of a boss, if I quit tonight, he wouldn't let me have my check for a month.

So. Plan A: Quit.

Plan B: Quit.

Are we clear on this? Good.

Why is Ana so angry she's incoherent with rage?

"We need to talk about the schedule this weekend."

"Huh?"

"Yeah, Julia can't work Friday."

"I won't be in town Friday."

"Well, tough."

Yeah. Tough. Fuck you. I will not be here. I won't be here Monday, either, but that's beside the point.

Am I making my own bed? Yeah. And I'm going to happily curl up in it.

I am sick of this shit.

I did not sign on to work seven days a week. I, stupidly, did. I regret that immensely, since I could have walked away from the job then and been a much happier person for the last seven months.

I did not sign on to be treated like the slave.

Guess what? This kitten has claws. And gumption.

And I will not be in Friday.

I figure I can maintain a non-committal, "Whatever" attitude. If he asks directly, I'll tell him.

He can fire me.

Let's see how fast they fill the position.

The last ten minutes of work, my mantra was, "I quit. I quit. I quit. I quit...." I left before he came out to take over. Good thing, too, or I would have lost my resolve and quit right on the spot.

Push me, Don. Tell me I can't have Friday off. Watch me walk out of the building Thursday night and never come back.

I can do this. I can hang on until Thursday. Just need that check.

Legally, your boss can't hold your check. Even if you tell him to take his job and shove it where the sun don't shine.

That happened to my husband once. He quit and when he went to get his last check, they refused to give it to him. He went to the police. They went to the place with him and told the boss he had to give him his check or he could be arrested.

Another interesting law that often gets overlooked... did you know if you're fired, they are supposed to give you your final check for all money owed within 24 hours?
