erm. was reminded of something, and saw the 'world ends with a whimper not a bang thingie' line from some poem...
disclaimer: not mine. Set: s8. Or so.
Poet Calling
ALC Punk!
It happened on a Wednesday.
The birds were singing, the sun was shining, and Dr. Daniel Jackson was turning to say something to Teal'c about cataloguing artifacts SG-14 had brought.
Flowers waved in the breezes on the surface, bees dancing among them as they have since the beginning of time. Colonel Sam Carter and General Jack O'Neill were flirting over their jell-o in the mess hall. He had red, she had blue.
They say that before you die, your life flashes before your eyes, and you see everything you should have done better.
At that moment, there was no time for regrets.
For Daniel, it was like seeing something bright in slow motion. He, at least had time for thought. Oh no, not again.
Teal'c registered the burst of energy slicing through the base a second before it was too late to do anything.
Jack had glanced down to prod his last piece of red jell-o when Sam gasped. He met her eyes as the world dissolved around them.
The birds stopped singing, the flowers stopped moving in the breeze.
All that remained were gases in an ever-expanding wave that would someday dissipate into the vastness of the universe.

This is the way the world ends.
This is the way the world ends.
This is the way the world ends.
Not with a bang, but a whimper.

Some say the world will end in fire;
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To know that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
