hrm... boooom...
Ever listened to a song, and thought, "Wow, I really like the way it sounds, I should read the lyrics!" and then been disappointed because the lyrics, well, just weren't that great? Or the opposite, ever read lyrics, and thought, "Wow, this must sound really good!" and it sounded like shit?
I have. Many times, probably.
Most recently, with Theory of a Deadman's "The Last Song". I love the way it sounds, it's rich and melancholy, and slightly depressing. Then you read the lyrics. And the lyrics are... sophomoric and kind of stupid.
On the flip side of the coin is Velvet Revolver's 'Fall to Pieces'. I had never heard them, I'd just read lyrics. And I was excited the lyrics are quite nice (not quite on par with Something for Kate, but nice and depressing). The music, however, sounds like shit.
sigh.
Hrm. Coffee.

I read somewhere that Seal never publishes his lyrics in the CD jackets for that reason... He would love a song and sing it to himself, only to find out later that the real lyrics were disappointing. You always like the ones in your head better.
