SG-1, season 8 thoughts...
Ramblings. May contain spoilers.
SG-1 season eight.
Lockdown. Oddly, this episode was better, this second time through. The characters shine through fabulously. The plot? Ignore it. It's pathetic and damn stupid. But the main cast are cute and bubbly, and the Russian was nice. I'm still sad they didn't call in the Ghostbusters to deal with the ghost (HELLO)....
Zero Hour. Heh. Fab ep. But, again, I note that I think that SG-1 being restricted to having another team go with them does a few things. 1. Undermines Sam's confidence as a commander. 2. Uh, hello? Why did SG-1 go out without a second team before? Oh, I know, because Hammond wasn't their former leader, and thus, was under the impression they could handle themselves. | Yeah. So, I hate that Jack insists they take another team on simple recon. I mean, duuuuh. Also? Amanda Tapping said something in an interview about how SG-1 is limited to that now. No off-world missions without baby-sitting. Not her words, of course. But I'm... unimpressed. Dear SG-1 writers: You have a strong female commander, but you're still putting men in charge so she's actually still second in command. Stop it, you dumbshits.
PS. Stop making her hit her head in the shower (Covenant and Gemini and Endgame).
Sacrifices. omfg. The entire ep... Well, I'm sure they didn't intend for me to read it shippy.... I still like the layers on this episode. CJ did a nice job as the writer. And I still say Sam and Jack came out of the storage closet on level 19 before taking their walk down the hall... ;)
One of the things I noticed while watching these again: I don't think Jack is as unsuited to being General as everyone keeps saying. I think RDA is tired of playing the part, but I don't think Jack is tired of being General. Even in Sacrifices, there's a sprightliness to him. (I'm probably the only one who thinks this). Yes, at the beginning, he was a little overwhelmed, but I think he's settled in. I also don't get the "omfg! SG-1 doesn't understand Jack's Problems With Command!" stuff I've heard people say (esp. about Zero Hour). There was really no sense there that Jack felt put upon by them. *shrug* Although I still claim he and Sam had sex that night. "You didn't let me go look for toys. *pout*" "C'mere." "Keep doing that with your hand." "Yes, ma'am."
Although there are downsides to season 8. Covenant, which makes me want to tear my hair out in boredom, and The Trust.
I find them boring. Invisible Man did the trust. And it was just as boring THERE. Heck, The Trust, and Conspiracies are why I stopped watching the X-Files!
EVERYone has done the super-secret bad guy spy agency. Just... Give it a rest. Go use The Centre, or something. Make Daniel the subject of the prophecies that Mr. Parker read... (dear god, that would make Daniel Cable... maybe we shouldn't go there). But get away from the fucking NID, for fuck's sake!
Sadly, I'm sure they won't. Because they think it's nifty. Like they think the fucking gedi on Atlantis are nifty.
But that's a rant for another time.
I need to re-watch Affinity, actually. Hrm....

And Lockdown, hee... "Who shot me?" That's become one of my favorite Sg1 memories now. Sam and Teal'c totally roll over on Jack. Heh!

Quite wanted to smack Charles Shaugnessy (?) in Covenant. Really hard.

And I hated the concept of Covenant even before it aired. So I knew going in it was gonna be bad.... sigh.

*nods* I knew I wasn't going to be able to take it seriously when I found out about the casting. I spent the entire episode alternating between giggling my ass off and being really angry at his character. Pfft.

She should have smacked him for the '302 stunt.
More than that, she shouldn't have even had him at the Alpha Site. OR, she should have put him under arrest for treason (which, y'know, revealing the SGC IS treason)...

I would have. And I would have screamed myself hoarse.
*nods* It's kinda, like, illegal and stuff. None of that diplomatic shit. (Although, Daniel's bit about all the messages on his phone was adorable. I'm so easy.)

*beats the writers with sticks*

*also beats them with sticks* Bad writer! No biscuit!
