"She's dead."
"I can see that." Carter's voice was dry.
Jack found himself staring as if he didn't know her. "Carter, Kerry's dead." Okay, so he was repeating himself.
"Hey, it could have been worse," a shrug, and he knew those blue eyes had never looked this cold. "She could have shot herself with your gun."
Yeah. Not his Carter. The gun in his hands was pointed unerringly at her heart, "Who are you?"
"Guess." Her unnerving smile didn't waver as he cocked the gun (for show, more than anything). "Oh, come on, Jack. Like you'd really shoot me."
But he can hear it, now, a subtle clicking and buzzing. And he knows what it reminds him of. "Where's Carter, you over-achieving blow-up doll?"
The face melts into anger in an instant, and she's moved and slammed him into the wall before he can even pull the trigger. "You could have been so much fun."
A sound echoes back into his ears, and her expression changes again, surprise.
"Jack..."
The red blood blossoms, scattering his thoughts to ashes. Too late, her eyes wide with death as she falls, he sees the small device perched on the back of her neck.
"She's dead."
