amwatching Trek...

Next Gen. The Kinsey episodes.

(because. Dude. Kinsey fucking over the SGC would be JUST LIKE THIS)

And there's this bit where Deanna and Wil exchange the "We're gonna need porn later." "Yup. And lots of chocolate." "I'll bring the pudding." looks.

Also? Bev, Picard and Worf? I keep calling the Carter, Jack and Teal'c... Daniel is stuck on the Enterprise taking care of Kinsey.

Watched DS9's "Our Man Bashir" earlier. Shai had never seen it... Sadly, I'm missing the very very beginning, with the bar brawl... But the rest is funky and fun as hell.

Chain of Command part 2 is what 'Abyss' tried to be.

And failed.

Intellectually, emotionally, I can build castles in the air around the ideas and actions in Abyss. But the episode itself does NOT have this emotional meat. The silences and the lights and, just, damn. There is no way I can watch Abyss again without being disappointed.

sigh.

hrm.

Dude. So writing the AU wherein he DOES have Bev and he tortured her alongside Jean-Luc (in a seperate chamber). And then there will be broken people having sex. A lot.

hrm.

Must kill Kinsey, too.

Patrick Stewart watched videoes from Amnesty International to prepare for the part, so I hear. If it's true, he definately played the part of a tortured man very well.

*nod* huh. Wouldn't surprise me.

I don't think it's just that, though....

Maybe Warner and Stewart had better timing? I don't know. There's just a visceral-ness to CoC that Abyss lacks. Abyss is basically Jack going through the motions of being tortured. CoC is Picard being deprived and tortured.

Hrm.

That is quite true. Generally TNG leaves me kind of cold, but then you get an excellent character-driven episode like CoC and it's mind-blowingly good. Part of what helps is that Patrick Stewart is an amazing actor. Abyss...yeah. It's not a bad episode, and it's a lot better than Frozen, but it seemed to have a cool premise that played out into a fairly mediocre episode. I love RDA and I think he's a very good actor, but he didn't really sell the torture to me in that one.

In CoC, I felt that Picard was being geniunely mentally ripped apart by a man who was taking an almost clincal but also gleeful interest in seeing how deeply the good captain could be made to suffer before he broke. Abyss had a fairly bored-looking Ba'al giving us half-hearted snarls and rather mediocre torture. Knives? Acid? Sheesh...I'd honestly think a System Lord who knows that he has a former Tok'ra operative and a member of the infamous SG1 in his grasp would take more of an interest in making him suffer. Plus, this is Ba'al! He may not be as unspeakably evil as Anubis, but he's not all sunshine and puppies either.

Abyss is worth it for the Sha'lin angst though. I think it's worth it for the fandom wank and meta and arguments and railing and fic and complaining. And pretty icons and evil j/d icons.

Hrm. BLAH.

What angst? I still don't get the angst. So she was blonde, so what?

Erm, but the wank is amusing.

I make up the angst in my fanfic shipper HEART! AAAH. Yeah, there is no angst. Except for the "I'm gonna tell him and he's going to do this to her" I liked that twist that he actually DID know.

Must kill Kinsey, too.

Yay!

Wait, is Kinsey a character on one of these shows?

'Cos I'm just imagining Liam Neeson as Alfred Kinsey. Taking notes. "Porn... pudding..." *scribble*

*snerk* Ronny Cox played Senator Kinsey in Stargate, and Captain Jellico on Next Gen. It's easier to just call him Kinsey, because it's basically the same personality.
