silly and very geeky made up expletive to replace jesus fucking christ. Mainly because Apophis fucking Sokar brings up amusing images. (two of the bad guys off SG-1)
Because some of the really nasty stuff he wants to do, especially when it comes to domestic policy, he just hasn't had time to set up yet. Four more years will do it. So much for the land of the free.
There has NEVER been any talk of bringing back the draft except from Kerry's scare tactics. The Bush camp has repeatedly and consistently denied it, and it's frankly implausible.
There's too slim a majority in the Senate for either side to have pushed through a Supreme Court nominee, so anyone who makes it on the Court will 99.9999999% certainly be a moderate. You'll keep Roe v Wade and civil liberties.
I happen to think Bush's economic policies make more sense, but that's a matter of taste, so you can continue to react to that as you please.
Iraq did more than look at us cross-eyed, but nothing I say manages to make a difference in that regard, so continue to think what you like.
And I'm not going to debate politics anymore in your LJ, Lyss. Sorry. *goes and hides*
It's depressing out there, that's for sure. :\ I'm trying to be respectful, but I'm getting REALLY tired of being called stupid (and much, much worse) for voting how I did. *sigh*
That's actually not true, there's been talk about bringing back the draft since we went into Iraq; it's just political suicide to say so. There have been draft bills, from both parties, in Congress ever since we went to Iraq.
And Iraq had no WMDs or 9/11 involvement, so I'm not sure what they did, beyond be a generic nasty-piece-of-work dictatorship, like 20% of the world.
The draft bills have also been locked in committee and political deathground since being introduced. (Actually, both bills I know of were introduced by Democrats.) There is NO chance of their even making it to a vote, much less passing. The support's just not there. It was never more than a scare tactic, and I'm sad to see how well it worked.
I remember seeing one introduced by a Republican, several months ago, when it was clear we were overtaxing the troops. There's no chance of it passing, because it's a political albatross, but it is clear that an all-volunteer army isn't going to be enough in the future. If it were, stop-loss efforts wouldn't be so wide-spread. Calling it an all-volunteer army now is technically true, but, with stop-loss in place, verging on falsehood.
No, I don't think there'll be a draft. But, yes, I do think we're very close to needing one. They're scraping the bottom of the barrel and then some, as it is.

Like 42 said, the second term's the killer. He's not accountable to the public anymore.

Let's see.
He's going to bring back the draft, men and women, ages 18-34.
Goodbye, Roe vs. Wade.
Goodbye, any civil liberties.
Goodbye, any hope of economic security for the middle class and poor.
More wars with anyone who looks at us cross-eyed.
Are those good enough reasons? I'd hate to overreact, you know.
