cause I feel like it

Rambling about SG-1 and Atlantis from last night. With spoilers.

SG-1.
Oh, look, another Daniel gets an Alien Luv Interest episode.

A more boring episode they couldn't have chosen (we get video games next week. Can we have Scully, too?), really. This was a rehash of Memento, New Ground (oh, god, the best thing about NG was how pretty they all looked in cages), The Other Side, and at least one or two others. The only highlight is that they bombed the planet (YAY! Destruction on a planet-wide scale! Which, sadly, we NEVER SAW... Unless I missed it while Daniel was in the French Revolution) to cinders. Or, should have. As mentioned in the () I don't recall seeing ANY devestation. "People died." Um... ok.

The religious zealots made me yawn. Although I perked up when he shot the chick. The chick was familiar (anyone know who she was?), but now she's dead. *notsad*

And how many people joined me in yelling, "Don't kill him, you'll make him a martyr! .. Well, thanks Kane. You're as stupid as we thought you were." at the t.v.? The best way to keep your religious zealots in check is to stick them in jail and mock them incessantly.

Heh. Jailcam.

There were a few bits that bothered me. (nos' pointed this one out) Sam's being uncertain of Teal'c's translations was one that made me gape at the tv... Are they trying to dumb her down now? I don't buy the "she was nervous" explanation. It just looks stupid. And makes her look incompetent. (Would Jack have questioned T? No. He might've jokingly said "Ya sure?", but not the "I think this might be wrong, he could be wrong..." kind of vibe Sam had).

Most of the rest of the episode made me yawn. A lot. Except for the ramp scene. "So, sex?" "Level 19 storage room. An hour." "Cool."

I watched it with the sound off the second time through (to tape it. Since, y'know, I wanted to.)...

Atlantis.
I'm saddened we didn't get to see the choosing the team episode. Where they argued about various people, she told him he'd better fucking take Ford. And then McKay was like "ME??? I don't wanna go....ooo. Tech. Ok, I'm going."

But that was a rant I could have made last week, so... Moving on.

I liked this episode.

It stuck them in a difficult situation, and made them react to it in a paranoiac, yet believable fashion. Lizzie needed to toss the stupid assistant guy, though. But she was in a difficult position (and she IS good at following her gut and being paranoid--despite Steen not being ourLizzienow, the best Lizzie bit ever from Lost City is her yelling for the manual iris closure. Because she thinks on her feet. She takes it all in, and acts as best she can), and didn't make it easier on herself by conducting sekrit tribunals.

Teyla, for once, actually seemed like a person here. I hope it's not all hero worship on her part (which Halling called her on). I don't think it is, though. She seemed much more the leader of her people she was supposed to be. Juggling both her team duties, and the duties of her position. She's in a harder place than Lizzie. She has to be fair to both sides. And once past the initial I'm Being Persecuted reaction that John her out of (and that was nicely played), she SAW the logic of it.

Actually, I don't know why Weir automatically assumes it can't be one of the Earth people (my money's on stupid assistant man. Hey, dudes, can we have AccentBoy Grodin back, please? He's prettier.). No, they didn't know about the wraith beforehand, but humans are greedy bastards, and scientists are focused on learning.

(Anyone remember the black hole ep of SG-1? Sam wanted to leave the gate open so they could watch the blackhole. She didn't care, at that moment, that there were men dying on the other side. Intellectual curiosity had overwhelmed her.)

Plus, if you interview all of your people you're not just singling out one section of the population.

I am SO GLAD the E/Athosians are gone. They bored the fuck out of me, and except for Teyla, I hope we never see them again.

That said, I want a rock to drop on Halling.

I lovelovelove that John is the one that fucked them over. "Ooh, shiny necklace." *snickers madly*

And how hot was he in that black shirt? Sigh.

Er, I think it's because the Wraith attacked our people in the pilot. Which, we now know, was all necklace-related, but remember how she's all "How do we KNOW that one of them didn't tip off the Wraith?" No human had met the Wraith yet, so it couldn't really have been one of them.

The Ethosians were kind of dull, but I was totally expecting them to improve and be in the background (like random Bajorans on DS9, and yes, I like making the DS9/Atlantis connection a lot because it's more inspiring to me than Voyager/Atlantis). Anyway. I will keep my sekrit Halling love away from you ;)

I lovelovelove that John is the one that fucked them over.

HA! Yes. And I love that they actually solved that mystery from the pilot of why the Wraith showed up and hey, it's actually *not* Colonel Doggett's fault! Also? I LOVE SO MUCH that the interrogation business turned something up and was RIGHT about Teyla leading the Wraith to them, although I would have liked to see the "Uh. Yeah. Sorry I gave you that necklace and all." And you know it *is* kind of entertaining that The Moment that the John/Teyla shippers are all over as showing the ONETRUELOVE! almost got them all killed a lot ;)

And SG-1? I totally second your "what the fuck?" And I WEEP for impending trapped-in-a-videogame-ness. Weep.

Umm, was that an actual scene? Because I don't remember it... Of course, my memory's kinda lousy sometimes, especially if I'm being distracted by something else... ^_^
