Meme time: Poems and 50 word fandoms
Borrowed from
thisbluespirit
1: Pick five fandoms. List them in alphabetical order.
2: Visit this site to find your first RANDOM POEM OF POWER. Write down the 5th line (yes, even if it's an E.E. Cummings poem and you wind up with an apostrophe). Repeat five times and - you guessed it - list 'em in alphabetical order! (No cheating, mind! This is a challenge and it's always been about creativity.)
3: I think you can see where this is going. Write a very quick 50-word half-drabble for each fandom (try to do it all in one sitting - make your brain explode!), using the line from the poem as a prompt. You don't have to include it in the half-drabble - it's just inspiration.
4: Bravo! Have a cookie
I ended up doing it twice, for fandoms: Doctor Who, Farscape, Torchwood, Marvel's Excalibur, Miss Marple, Stargates SG-1 & Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica (2005), St. Trinian's, and Marvel's Mockingbird.
And I'm posting now otherwise, I'll end up waiting for forever and never doing so.
Torchwood. fell in the Cumberlands, holding only - After Years - Ted Kooser
Gwen clutches Tosh's hand as the pain sears through her side more sharply. There are fingers digging into her side, blood flowing out from her skin. It's fanciful to think, but perhaps this is how she dies.
"Hold her still, Jack--"
It's Owen's harsh demand which anchors her to reality.
Marvel's Excalibur. His Labor is a Chant— - His Feet are shod with Gauze - Emily Dickinson
"Brian." Meggan sounds strained as she leans into him, and his breath catches. Meggan, a goddess, a sorcceress, a bloody powerhouse, is not supposed to sound strained.
There's dirt under his fingernails, though, and he knows this difficult life is only the beginning. Brian finds himself grateful for her presence.
Stargate: SG-1. Or that I'd ask the sorcerers - You Thought I Was That Type - Anna Akhmatova
This is how the world ends, Daniel thinks wearily. And it's ironic and completely normal and completely wrong to everything he's ever seen. It's not aliens, it's not high-powered weapons from beyond the stars, it's not trans-dimensional beings with more power than sense.
It's just a simple virus.
Battlestar Galactica (2005). This morn of Rome and May? - Two In Campagna - Robert Browning
Laura Roslin breathes in. Earth smells of grass and dirt; that thick too-warm haze that Caprica would get in the late spring before the endless rains began. Humidity slides along her skin like a wet blanket. Just for a moment, she misses the acrid, stale air of before-Earth.
Doctor Who (Big Finish audios). To comfort them with cheerful chat; - Bed Sitter - Robert Service
"Have you never wondered what's at the end of the rainbow?"
Charley glanced sideways and tried to muster a smile. She knew he was trying, it wasn't his fault, really. And yet... "Oh, Doctor..." At her feet lay a grave she hadn't thought existed.
Here lies Edith Thompson...
1. Farscape. In rosy youth, he cast away - For Meng Hao-Jan - Li Po
Breathe in. Breathe out. He could do this, he could live for her, he could--
Of course he couldn't. There had been too much energy, no shielding, he'd been so exposed. Science dictated action and reaction. John Crichton swallowed as Aeryn's fingers brushed against his cheek.
I'm sorry...
2. Miss Marple (Agatha Christie) In the Age of Gold, - A Little Girl Lost - William Blake
Yes, of course, Jane Marple thought to herself as she observed the young couple walking down the street before her. It would come down to the will's beneficiaries. Not that it wasn't expected. And yet, she had hoped for something slightly less dreary than money as the cause.
3. Stargate: Atlantis Loving offenders, thus I will excuse ye: - Sonnet 42: That thou hast her, it is not all my grief - Shakespeare
They had played God. Leaning her head against the glass, Elizabeth tried to tell herself it had been justified. They had needed the intelligence, they had needed this edge against the Wraith.
Yet all she could see was the look in Michael's eyes, the betrayal.
She had given him that.
4. Mockingbird The muted city seems - The House Of Dust: Part 03: 01: As evening falls - Conrad Aiken
Bobbi slipped through the shadows, watching her feet as she contemplated. Should she feel different, should there be something she noticed more about the world with this new dimension to her biological makeup? It was hard to tell, of course. Analysis was harder from inside the control group.
5. St. Trinian's Now! with a crash - Blake's Sunflower - Elizabeth Smart
"It's a flying saucer."
Taylor wrinkled her nose and shot Polly a look, "Duh."
"And for our next trick, girls..." Kelly mused as she stepped forward, hand raised just above the still-steaming surface.
The girls who'd piled out of the dorm when the thing had crashed stepped forward, waiting.

I particularly like the Charley, one I think, but I smiled at this: It would come down to the will's beneficiaries. Not that it wasn't expected. And yet, she had hoped for something slightly less dreary than money as the cause.
Because, of course. And it so often is...
