SFF: The I'm not too late for this, I've just been busy edition
ie, the "I watched the first two episodes of the new John Rogers show The Librarians and have thoughts".
1. So, a lot of people have compared it to Warehouse 13. And it does sort of have that feel in regards to the Giant Giant Library. However, I think the show felt very much closer to The Middleman than W13.
(I mean, let's get real, here. W13 stole the whole magical artifacts thing from 90's horror TV like Poltergeist: The Legacy and Friday the 13th: The Series)
2. John L. is sort of dull, sadly. But I'll survive his dullness.
3. The kids are adorable ducklings.
4. Eve Baird is amazing and I cannot help but squeal with glee about how the show never apologizes to us that she's a woman in charge. Nor does it go "she's really girly underneath! No, really!" Even when it puts her in a dress. Because the dress might have been killer, but she wore it the same way she wore her combat suit - like it was just part of her armor. And she's so fucking confident. It is AMAZING.
5. I also ship it. I'm weak, ok. and woman who yank their men in for a kiss which leaves said men all confused are hot. ETA: ok, also, there was that time where they met and she held a gun on him and then the next time they met, he held a sword on her and--look, one of my favorite Regency romances is Georgiana wherein she shoots the hero (he was being a prick, he totally deserved and he kinda admits he deserved it and also he thought it was pretty cool that she shot him even though he really didn't think she would) -
Which is to say I'm pre-programed to ship it.
6. poor Eliot, though. He thought taking a break on an oil rig would clear his head and LOOK WHERE IT GOT HIM. At least there's bar brawls involved.
7. Lamia/Eve is also a bit hot, and I think Cassandra/Lamia might work for me, too.
8. the plot was ridiculous, as it should be.
9. Also, I KNEW Dean Devlin directed it because the jump-cuts and crane-shots.
10. I really really hope we get more Jane Curtin, because she was a blast. I'd rather her than dull John L. (I'm lazy, Idgaf how his name is spelled).
11. On a tangent, I'm pretty sure Evie/Rick was one of the earlier apocoalypse-stopping Librarian/Guardian pairs (I listed to the two Mummy movies today at work and couldn't stop giggling about this fact, because, DUH.) - one wonders if L/G pairings are the most stable or if they're the most chaotic.
12. Evie is totally a Librarian, after all. She'd be a spiffing one.
13. Cross-time-crossovers need to happen, fandom.
In other thoughts, I was listening to Spaceballs today (I have to make my own fun, ok?) and wondered about the BSG version of the Princess vs the Space Pilot Tramp...
Which meant that I tried to imagine Sam Anders as the Royal Prince who runs from his wedding only to get rescued by Kara Thrace in her rusty Winnebago with her side-kick, Helo. And poor, long-suffering, Jean Barolay gets stuck as the Cylon (this time).
(Sam Anders saying "My hair! He shot my hair!" shall continue to make me snicker rudely at inappropriate moments)
hrm. It should be bedtime, I think.

I'm wondering if you've had the opportunity to check out either of Syfy's new space opera attempts? I rather liked Dark Matter. Killjoy's I'm not sure about yet from the one episode, but it does have a female bounty hunter as the lead character, so I'll be keeping my eye on it.

I ship Eve/Cassandra so hard, especially after the fairytales episode. But there's only like 5 fics for the pairing on AO3. It's very depressing.
