well, that was disappointing.
I finally got round to watching the First Doctor special that BBC America did. And, I have to say, it was rather... less than impressive.
For an over-view, it fell flat, as it ignored at least two companions, and every monster outside of the Daleks. Seriously. There were more monsters than Daleks in that era. I know that it's hard for current Who fandom to grasp this idea, but it's true.
There were also more companions than Ian, Steven, Barbara, Polly and Ben. In fact, why did we get Polly and Ben who are more likely to be considered Two companions, but not get Vicki or Dodo? Susan was mentioned, but as some sort of abstract, non-companion person.
It was also apparently too much work for them to interview Carole Ann Ford (but David Tennant who has FUCK AND ALL to do with that era talked for a good five minutes). Yep. First companion EVER, and she was completely non-existent. Good job, assholes. (Jackie Lane, Maureen O'Brien, and Anneke Wills were also absent, though I'd assume they'll get Anneke for the Two special. If not, what are you people even fucking smoking over there?)
And then they went on and on about the Daleks, while completely ignoring any other villains and monsters from that era. I am so so so fucking tired of the Daleks, people. Seriously. I am over them. Why the fuck aren't you?
There was also a two-minute digression into The Gunfighters (with Peter Purves talking about it, but again, nothing from the female companion of the time), which seemed to be utterly and fucking pointless.
Interviewed were the Moff, Neil Gaiman, David Tennant, William Russell, Peter Purves, and Caroline Skinner. Being the token woman must have wonderful. (also, only two of those people had anything to do with that era. ugh)
So. All told, I'm not impressed with the first installment of the 50th Anniversary 'official' materials.
At this point, Big Finish has to merely have a 2-hour (or however long) full-cast audio drama to blow the current canon producers totally out of the water. (The audio drama will feature pretty much every surviving classic era Doctor and companion. It shouldn't be that hard. They managed Zagreus, after all)

Witness the Daleks and the Gunfighters, standing in for Asylum and
the Farscape guy oneTown Called Mercy or whatever it was.So mention of WOTAN or the Meddling Monk, or the Chumblies, the 'pure' historicals?
All not interesting to their target demographic.
It's why I avoid BBCA like the plague.
(most people don't know or forget that BBCA is a Discovery Network channel, and has to license all the clips, footage, shows, etc, from Auntie Beeb.)
