I am alive, returned, etc. Have a meme or two
Bookmeme! (also, end of the year fandom meme)
What are you reading now?
I'm tempted to grab Magic's Pawn by Mercedes Lackey just to have something to answer this question with. I suppose I'm sort of reading through the Black Thorn, White Rose anthology, though?
So, I wrote those lines last night, then thought "what the hell" and picked up Magic's Pawn. Unsurprisingly, it opened to one of the middle Hurty bits, and I read through to the end, went back and read from the beginning to the middle. It is such delicious H/C idcrack. Then I re-read Magic's Promise.
What did you just finish reading? (I don't care if this answer has now changed)
To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis. It's my... third? Maybe fifth re-read. I still quite like it, even if there are bits that still feel somewhat muddled, and the ending is rushed.
What do you expect to read next?
Probably a regency romance. There's now a ton of them down in the basement.
Magic's Price, and then probably Winds of Change because I didn't re-read it when I went through the Elspeth bits of the Winds books last time. And if I still have the Arrows books, I am down with slogging through them as well.such delicious idcraaaaack, I'd forgotten that
Also:
The Inexplicables by Cherie Priest looks good (I think it's the next one in her Clockwork Century stuff, though I wish she'd do a new one with her urban fantasy vampire against government conspiracies heroine).
Lies and Omens by Lyn Benedict (I should just buy the entire bloody series, at this point, but the library has this one, too)
End of the Year Fandom meme
Your main fandom of the year?
Hrm. Probably Doctor Who. Though I'm not really sure how to measure it.
Your favorite film watched this year?
I... don't think I saw enough films that were new to have one? (Tank Girl, though) Oh, wait. Snow White and the Huntsman! I had totally forgotten that was this year (I liked it enough to buy it, which says something, since I don't buy stuff all that often) My fingers are still crossed about a sequel that will be all about Snow and her bff, Rachael Stirling.
Your favorite book read this year?
If we go for sheer number of re-reads, I expect it's Freedom and Necessity. HOWEVER. A quick poke through my booklist tells me Dreadnaught was this year, and I loved the hell out of that book enough to give it to my brother's fiance (and probably my own sister, once I get her presents sent)
Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
I think it may be a toss-up between Metric's "Synthetica" and Imagine Dragons' "Night Visions". Both are really good, and I've been listening to them on repeat forever.
Your favorite TV show of the year?
Doctor WhoEven if Eleven doesn't stay forever, I hope the next Doctor keeps the whimsy and imagination of this era
Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
The Bletchley Circle. CODE-BREAKING WOMEN OF WWII FIGHT CRIME. It is like all my kinks wrapped up in Rachael Stirling. (minus the space opera, obvsly)
Other new shows: Primeval: New World was also highly entertaining and ridiculous. Continuum tried to be better than it was (not enough time travel shenanigans or women) And Scandal.
Your biggest fandom disappointments of the year?
Once Upon a Time. While it looks like a show where the women have agency, every episode I saw made a point to show that they were all just being manipulated by a dude. I am so so so tired of that plot.
Alas, no space opera on my tv. :/
Haven. I think it's inertia keeping me watching it.
Revenge. It's such a pity it only lasted one season, and we were just getting into Emily being an international spy when it was canceled.
Eureka. Season five was... bad. It had its moments, but on the whole, it made me angry that they squandered the potential for tit jokes and sexy women.
Your TV boyfriend of the year?
I... am not sure I had one. *ponders* Eleven. Or Del Tarrant (he is quite pilot-y enough for me, even if I think Jenna is more capable). I'd pick Zane Donovan, but Jo Lupo could kill me with her pinky, so.
Your TV girlfriend of the year?
Oswin Oswald. Charley Pollard.
Your biggest (fandom) squee moment of the year?
Asylum of the Daleks. Just. I can't. Or Legend of the Cybermen.
The most missed of your old fandoms?
Newskool Battlestar Galactica - I know living in the past is boring, but sometimes, I wish it were 2007 again, and we were all angsting over Plot Twists.
The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
Most of the fandoms I'd like to try don't exist (shows about women, after all, not that big a fandom draw. But if there were fandoms for The Bletchley Circle, Call the Midwife, and Scott & Bailey, I'd certainly try them out.
Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
um... New Lost Girl (ALL THE EVIL DARK PHOENIX ARCS EVER), Bomb Girls, and the hope that someone will make a space opera show I can stand? Oh, and Red Widow for the femslash potential. And Doctor Who season 7.2.

I just watched 3x11. Not pleased, show. Just...we couldn't even have this ONE, could we? And I'm sure not!Claire dies in 3x12 so I haven't watched that one or the finale yet even though they both leaked earlier today. And I just got icons and everything...

Agreed, completely. I was pleased they pulled things together enough to give us a decent finale but most of that final season wasn't worth watching a 2nd time.
