So, Bomb Girls (and Call the Midwife) is on Netflix now (but only to save). And, as always, Netflix offers some suggestions for 'shows like'...

Somehow, I think their script might be broken.



Out of nine recs, only one has anything that might be considered a similarity to Bomb Girls. Oddly enough, Call the Midwife receives the same list of recs.

(vampires. drugs. poncy British dude detectives. gritty rape in ~magical historical times. zombies. ~gritty alien invasion. ~gritty cop drama. historical drama set during WWII. I can totally see how these are all similar. Except not.)

O/T, but I have seen three episodes of Call the Midwife, and OMG, CHUMMY! How can I love Chummy so much, when Miranda's show gives me the screaming heebie jeebies?

Chummy. God damn, now I'm going to have to watch them all, and the babies being born make me cry.

I'm guessing the Netflix people had no idea what either show was about so they just picked popular shows and claimed they were similar. Or they waited for a few people to click on the shows and then used the other shows those users watched as recs. Because no one who has ever seen either show could compare them to The Walking Dead or Weeds or pretty much anything on that list.

The only one of those for which I can think of a semi-logical connection is Downton Abbey, because both shows are "historical". And yet don't even overlap time periods, so... I got nothin' else.

To be fair to Downton... it doesn't suck. It doesn't cover the same period in time, it just doesn't suck.
