Rock the Green 2012

So, we went to Rock the Green today--an all-day, open-air, environmentally 'friendly' music festival--and it was pretty awesome. I've not been to a festival like it in... a long time. Summerfest, yes, but Summerfest is all on blacktop and concrete. I'm used to sitting on the lawn at Riverport. (I think the last Pointfest I went to was 8, the bill that had Echo and the Bunnymen on it)

We left a little later than we needed to, but except for missing most of the first act (and possibly lines?), it wasn't too late.

I really hope they do something like it again, as I really liked being outdoors, listening to music.

It was a gorgeous, gorgeous day, if a bit cold towards the end. Now I'm tired, a bit sunburned, and still a bit cold. Possibly, I should sleep.

Morning Parade - We only heard the last three songs of their set, but they were good. I actually liked them (musically) better than Atlas Genius who played next.

Atlas Genius - They were all right. I liked them.

Imagine Dragons - Really chuffed and freaked out that people knew all the songs. Very happy to be there.

Switchfoot - Really excellent cover of Sabotage (as a dedication). I was standing in line for their whole set, but I enjoyed it, as it was a good distance to be at.

Metric - excellent--they're actually who I went to see! Emily Haines is the most energetic person I've ever seen on stage--the woman could not keep still. I was disappointed that they only played stuff from the last two albums, though. Except for the closing song, which was 'Dead Disco' and was ~amazing. (from what I recall (and totally not in this order, aside from the first and last song), they played 'Youth Without Youth', 'Gold Guns Girls', 'Sick Muse', 'Help I'm Alive', 'Breathing Underwater', 'Synthetica', 'Speed the Collapse' and 'Dead Disco')

Fever Marlene - I didn't actually pay them much attention, as they were on the side stage and we were getting cupcakes. But they played a cover of Metric's 'Synthetica' which was... well, the music was fine, but the dude's voice wasn't really suited to it.

Third Eye Blind - To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from these guys. I've never been a huge fan, but I was fine with sitting through their set. But they really surprised me--they were really good and engaging with the crowd on a level that none of the other bands did. They also seemed really really pleased to be there (apparently they're not currently touring, if the lead singer is to be believed?). They played an extra-long set, with some really nice improv stuff. Also, the crowd sang for them a few times on their two over-played hits from the 90's. And the lead singer kept making me think he was Timothy Hutton (all the rock band aus now, Leverage fandom). I was really impressed, and I'd see them again.

Sounds like a fun concert! I'm listening to Metric on their website and I think I'm liking it. (I've discovered the best way for me to discover "new" music is to check out friends' recs. Beats listening to the radio!)
