Kiss Me/Kill Me - An Antagonistic Pairing Drabblethon 2011 (no one should be surprised that I already added a promt)
Prompting is open until the 25th at
ladies_fest
Day sign-ups (whoops, for
sparktober, as IT IS COMING OMG)
Also, crossover ficlet. Lost Girl/Sanctuary, and more of a character musing piece than anything else.because Kenzi is the little sister Will NEVER EVER EVER wanted, but totally deserves (like, pg for language)
Kenzi doesn't really talk about her family much. It's probably for the best--sure, Bo's a succubus, and the Fae are weird and hilariously out there and all. And Trick is, well, Trick. But Kenzi doesn't really want to have to explain about how her brother is part of an Institution (usually with air-quotes) that watches out for 'Abnormals'.
For one thing, she'd then have to explain why he's never bagged a Fae (and that's not really Kenzi's turf, the explanations thing. Especially not being honest about it). She could maybe spin some shit about how Fae register differently than Abnormals, and how they don't really get caught by the scanner and satellite equipment (but then she might end up hitting a bullshit dead-end there, as Hale isn't stupid, and Trick has people who know people who could check out the satellite angle. Probably)
She could go on about how he's a total idiot, and sort of stupid (that's why he never sends her cards for holidays, not that she misses them). Or about how there's, like, treaties between the Fae and Magnus (which is possibly skirting the truth; Magnus can be scary when she has a piece of paper she wants you to sign).
And then she could buy a round of shots (and charge it to Bo's tab, which, hey, Bo's the one who's the cheap drunk so why is that Kenzi's fault?)
Because alcohol is always distracting, and the night would probably move on to Dyson complaining or Hale mumbling about how his family suuucks (which, well, they do) or Bo making eyes at Dr. Lauren (who probably will have escaped her jail sentence of, doom, or whatever).
Except that Trick would remember (dude is like that), and he'd ask questions, maybe even uncomfortable ones--when Kenzi's sober.
And maybe she might have too much of a hangover (or be trying to dodge her bar tab again), and she might admit a few things. Like how Magnus came up against some of the Council once upon a time and trounced their asses (this is all hearsay, of course, and speculation, but if there's one thing Kenzi knows, it's Helen Magnus's scary-ass strategy games). Like how they were forced into the treaty, and how Magnus keeps a record of who moves where.
Like how Kenzi has her brother digging into those records, doing a little research for her on Bo's history.
And how, sort of, Kenzi may've let slip about the whole Aoife thing.
But that was probably all Kate's fault, anyway, woman can wield a mean-ass martini--at least, Kenzi thinks that's what it was.
Research was never Kenzi's thing, that's why she's good with her brother doing it (dull stick-in-the-mud that he is--and, god, she's glad Magnus took him on, if only for the tips and money Kenzi's earned with the information he sometimes lets leak).
But maybe Trick wouldn't like that.
Kenzi sometimes thinks that he knows too much he isn't telling, but then, he does keep her in good spirits. And not just the watered down stuff.
So Kenzi lets things slide, and keeps her mouth shut.
She's always been good at that.
