politics, fleeeee.

So, everyone has been talking about the WI Democrats and their badassery in fleeing the state to keep the republicans from peremptorily shoving their bill through. (or, if you're on the other side, you're going on about those whiny jerks who aren't Listening To The People...)

But, anyway. The Assembly democrats are also pretty badass. Part four is the one you want.

Also, apparently the lurkers support gov. Walker in email. But, not, apparently, by going to Madison. Unless they're bussed in from out of state.

I was talking with my folks about this, actually. (Both of 'em work for MPS: Mom's a teacher, Dad's an admin) It's crazy, and I've been having to explain WI politics to friends who are going "WTF?! But your state produced Feingold!"

Although my favorite part, after the WI Dems running from the state police like badasses, is MPS teachers collectively giving the superintendent the finger. (Apparently, at 11pm Thursday night, the superintendent threatened disciplinary action for any teacher who didn't show up to work on Friday. By 4am Friday, school had to be called due to over 600 teachers already calling in absent.)

hahahah. We also produced MacArthy, too, though, iirc.

I know. I was sort of ridiculously proud and awed by that. =D

You expect 20-somethings to remember McCarthy? :P In any case, I spent a lot of time explaining crazy WI politics and civil worker labor theory, because I am faaaar more familiar with the internal logistics of MPS than I have any right to be. (Although that did lead to the one time I got called up by kids from my old HS asking my opinion on a district thing. Because apparently I'm the Dark Master of MPS? In which case, I ask you why do I never get these memos?)

I was ridiculously proud too! And apparently teachers from my high school are the crazy awesome instigators? Which would be wicked awesome. :D

The sheer arrogance and self righteousness I've read in every statement from the Gov and his supporters is just unbelievable. To act like these thousands and thousands of protesters are just silly little upstarts who just need to learn their place and get back in line, and somehow they're the ones preventing democracy....I'm not even from that state, or affected by it in any way, but I would dearly love to punch that smug SOB right in the face. Or maybe the dick. If he has one.

I love how Walker keeps referring to "protesters versus the taxpayers" overlooking that the protesters ARE taxpayers, for heaven's sake! It's standard divide and conquer rhetoric, I know that, but it just bugs the crap out of me that anyone who happens to take a stand Walker opposes suddenly becomes an alien rather than a citizen.

They're not even being original. Texas Democrats did this several years ago during a redistricting fight.

I was just back in Wisconsin for my brother's wedding and so I happened to be in town when the big announcement on what he was doing got made. My dad has worked for MATC for over 25 years and so you can imagine his unhappiness with how things were going.

I desperately hope that with a united front we can beat back the son of a bitch. Seriously, my older brother was making jokes about Emperor Walker and his Stormtroopers when he brought in the Nat. Guard, but it's sadly not far from the truth with how he's been behaving. It's freaking ridiculous.

I've been following it very closely and keeping my fingers crossed.

What gets me so angry is that Walker, that tool, gave out $140 million in tax breaks to businesses, creating even more of a shortfall, and then has the temerity to say that it is the fault of the state workers (who are also tax payers) and who have already accepted furloughs and other negotiated compromises under collective bargaining to save the state money. And the Unions have stated that they would under collective bargaining accept increasing their contributions into the pension system and other cost saving measures.

And I love how the only the unions who supported him as a candidate aren't being targeted by him in all of this.

All he had to do was go in and negotiate with the unions under collective bargaining and none of this would be happening. But he wants this to happen.

Walker wants to kill the Unions, crush them down and take away any semblance of workers rights. Because in his mind , workers, especially state workers, are lazy, good for nothings who contribute nothing to HIS pocket book, don't pay taxes (NOT!) and do nothing for the bottom lines of BIG BUSINESS who ultimately own his political soul. And that the people who elected him to office didn't see this or didn't care is just disheartening and sickening.
