sff: Primeval, series 4, episodes 1-6
just before my spoilers, though, srsly. HOW AWESOME IS JESS PARKER? holy god.
This is going to be mostly an overview, since events in 4.4 actually made me not watch 4.5 until tonight. You see, the whole "Ethan kidnaps Emily so Matt will Feel Something For Someone and Save the Damsel" plot? Yeah. Not too thrilled with that one. Especially since I don't know why Emily didn't kick Ethan in the balls a time or two. She had perfect aim and was wearing boots.
I'm pleased that Connor and Abby made it home. I'm pleased that Danny didn't. I didn't hate him or anything, but I found him pretty boring (I'm sorry, I really loved Jenny Lewis and Danny's introduction was basically "look how awful this woman is at being in charge, we're knocking her down a peg so she can be out-shone by This Man" and completely bullshit and still makes me pissed-off).
Which is ok, because Matt is basically Danny, but with a Different Agenda. One which makes me yawn and crack Seeds of Doom jokes. NO REALLY. Matt's Mysterious Friend is totally Harrison Chase with his mansion and his Love of Plants (he'd totally have Scorbie as an assistant, it would make the whole thing). My one thought on MF is that he is either a) Ethan or b) Emily is his wife. And Matt's mama. *snickers a lot* Sadly, I don't think Primeval would go there, though I might be wrong on that.
Lady Emily. OMG. I love her so hard, even if the writers have to keep handicapping her so she doesn't out-awesome Matt, who isn't very bright. Also, I'd appreciate it if the writers would stop having Matt treat her like his property. She also thinks well on her feet, and OMG, there was even a scene with her, Jenny and Abby. I WANTED MORE OF THAT, SHOW. You suck for not allowing it. (also, they're all blind if they don't see that utilizing Lady Emily's talents and putting her on the Team is a good plan.)
ABBY. Still lots of love. I'm not sure what to make of her and Connor right now, but they're still sort of adorable (I sort of wish we had a little more of them having to adjust to being back in the present, but it's not really the type of show to dwell on that).
Jess Parker. NO SERIOUSLY, HOW AWESOME? Girlfriend deactivated a bomb with no training and the clock ticking down. Not to mention taking her courage in hand and being Matt's backup. <3 She's also highly competent at her job, bright and cheerful and her own person. Good job, show.
Jenny Lewis. SHOW. SHOW. THAT WAS A VERY MEAN TEASE. Because I'm sure she's not going to be back, which sucks. It would be awesome if she returned, though. She'd make a good addition to the team, but if they're not going to grab Lady Emily, I highly doubt they'll grab Jenny. sigh.
Lester. He's still sort of growing on me. Sarcastic bastard that he is. (I suspect this is how vampire!Tesla suckered me, too)
Phillip. I love how he might be evil or he might just be a good guy who is Very Dedicated to the Future. I'm not sure what Prospero thing is, and I'm not sure it has nothing to do with Ethan's plan.
Speaking of Ethan, good job on bringing Jack the Ripper to the future there, Ems. (I actually find him almost as boring as Matt, and will be really pissed off if he gets more screen-time and backstory/explanation than Helen did. Primeval's writers are already sort of shit at giving the women screentime and autonomy; though at least they manage it unlike Sanctuary which coasts along on Magnus and occasional "NO REALLY, WE HAVE A WOMAN OF COLOR ON OUR TEAM, SEE?" moments)
Becker. Sort of adorable. I'm disappointed that Jess and Becker having smoochies is going to have to all be in my head still. SIGH.
As you might have noticed, I don't really pay much attention to the over-all plot and stuff. And sort of find it a little boring? But the creatures and stuff and chase scenes are fun. All in all, I'm quite enjoying this season, and really like most of the new characters. Of the old, I only really miss Jenny.

Jenny made me really really really miss Claudia. How those two characters can be portrayed by the same actress says something about her abilities, yo. I want Claudia back, dammit.
I heart Lester. He IS such a sarcastic bastard...with a heart of pure goopy fluff. :D
This ep was painful if you watched it for the plot, yo.
Then again, it's not that far off for the series as a whole, as descriptions go.*koffs* More Jess being awesome, pls!no subject
The goopy fluff is why Lester sneakily got under my radar. ALSO, with the hugging Abby that one time. Which he tried to pretend he wasn't goopified by.
AND I MISS CLAUDIA SO HARD (like, way more than I miss Jenny. I like Jenny, but Claudia suckered me long before Jenny did). But I know we won't get her back. Well. I assume. :/ (and yes, huge props to the actress because they are similar, yet different, characters)

I am so hoping for Lady Emily to join the team too. Since Jenny was only back for the one episode I think. :(

Srsly. Helen's motivation was "my husband doesn't love me and my lover doesn't love me, either. So I'm going to sulk and try being vampy."
