Fandoms: Marvel comics' Excalibur, Doctor Who/Torchwood
OH GOD IT SO IS. Back when I first started watching newskool, and saw the London Torchwood stuff, I wasn't very impressed with them. Yvonne H., though, was the spitting image of Scicluna (leader of Black Air, the black ops super sekrit gov't organization of dooooom) from Ellis's run on Excalibur, so I started comparing the two. And, really, Torchwood comes up short against Black Air. TW, after all, only accidentally let Cybermen loose on London. Black Air deliberately released a demon that ate 10,000 people in one night. So, I figured I'd be a bit mocking. I still am.
Also, then we watched proper Torchwood and the end of series one and I DIED LAUGHING OMG. Because the comparison is even more hilarious when Torchwood accidentally sets a demon loose on Cardiff. TEAM, YOU ARE SO FAILbut I love you anyway

Romo thinks many things are a bad plan, but the one where he has to help drag a half-dead ex-sports star to the infirmary is sort of at the top of the list. Especially when Romo might get shot at and it's not his fault the idiot is bleeding everywhere. Then of course, the idiot's wife makes that little sigh of 'my husband is going to die and there's nothing I can do' and he folds like a house of cards.
(excuse me, I appear to have something in my eye)

Fandom: Leverage
SOPHIE AND PARKER JUMPING OFF ROOFS TOGETHER FOR PROFIT AND AWESOME. Erm. This show. It just. This show and Sophie and Parker make me so gleeful when they jump off roofs and steal things and-- This is sort of my femslash-go-to icon, too.
4.
Fandom: St. Trinian's
Kelly Jones and her "Let's steal a painting" face of glee. It's sort of snarky, too. And flirty.
5.
Fandom: Firefly
This icon is so old. Probably something like six or seven years old, but I've had it lurking around in my icons folder and decided I needed it not that long ago (possibly during one of the recent Yet Another Pink and Girly Crap = BAD rounds of the fandom meta wheel of doom). I keep forgetting I want to do some reclaiming of 'girly' since it's such a bad word around fandom (where there are no 'girly' women, obviously. As many many of them keep telling us. Yes. We get it. You don't like pink. stfu, you do not get a medal for it)
erm, my apologies, Inara. Side-tracked, there. Anyway, it's Inara looking cranky and annoyed, but also gorgeous, with a ridiculous blue streak and some polka dots. *sniffles* I don't make icons like that anymore. (I think it's a cap from Our Mrs. Reynolds)

So I can procrastinate on Yuletide some more.5). I'm not sure about this yet (I'm still at the 'collecting data' stage of my meta on this), but I...suspect that this whole "Girly = Bad" thing is more common in sci-fi fandoms where fandom's and canon's preferred heroines often tend to be the less traditionally feminine ones? Although...this may just be because I have mostly only participated in fandom for sci-fi/genre shows. But I doubt that shows where all heroines are equally girly suffer from this? It's only when fandom can compare types that it decides to collectively hate one heroine because apparently, it's only possible to like one heroine at a time.
Anyway, Inara is awesome, and fandom's hatred for her is why I'm glad to have completely missed out on that fandom.

And I think that's true--also, cop fandoms tend to be like that, too (there was a huge kerfuffle, or has been one, over Olivia Benson being 'not butch enough' in SVU femslash fandom)
AND THEY TAKE AWAY YOUR "not like those girly girls" card if you like more than one female character.

I understand Firefly fandom is rather annoying, and am glad to have completely missed out on it. Thankfully, almost everyone I know who likes it likes Inara.

Mostly, Inara is awesome.

heh, and I'll play the icon thing, if you can find five that are
not pictures of Trucco and therefore completely self-explanatoryinteresting enough to ask about. I... have mostly boring (but hot!) ones, I know. :)no subject
(this is the hardest thing! Choosing icons is hard, especially with such distractions)

On your Icon #1 - OMG everytime I see this one I squeal with so much "Yes!" it's not funny lol. Love TW, don't get me wrong, but for all Jack's angsting I'm like "You ain't got nothin' on Pete."
