fic: Alice/Jill, RE, untitled, PG13

Fandom: Resident Evil
Pairing: Alice/Jill
Length: 500 words
Rating: PG13ish. language, adult situations
Notes: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] femslash_land time warp challenge (drop your pairing into a different setting past/future).

Alice checked the pile of bullets she'd managed to find, and shot a glance out the window again, noting the early afternoon angle of the sun in the farmyard. An abandoned farmstead wasn't her idea of a last stand, but it was all they had. Out on the prairie, there weren't many options.

A nearby sound made her whirl, six-shooter up and pointed at the doorway.

"That would be a waste of bullets," Jill chided as she stepped inside, a rifle leaning against her shoulder and ammunition belts slung over her arm. "We're in luck." she slung the leather and metal towards the table, the crack of bullets on the wood making them both stiffen.

Once, the owners might have complained about the scuff marks in their kitchen table. But they were as dead as the town the two women had fled from on horseback. Alice had made certain of that, the smell of congealing blood making her stomach uneasy as she took a machete to the bodies they'd found. Jill hadn't offered to help, too interested in escaping the smell of blood and death.

"They'll be movin', come dark," she murmured, as Jill took the other chair, looking tired suddenly.

Alice remembered pulling Jill from a crowd of townspeople, dragging her upwards onto her horse as the milling, shambling creatures the people had become tried to pull them down. Her blood-stained skirts were gone, replaced with too-large trousers tied at the waist with rope and a half-ripped blouse that had seen better days.

"Why would they wait?"

Something stirred in Alice's mind, and she thought of telling the truth, of explaining her connection. But that never went well, "They just will."

Jill looked like she was going to argue, so Alice got to her feet again, moving around the table. Head tilting back, Jill watched her advance, surprise and knowledge in her eyes. "Alice--"

"Shh," murmured Alice, bending a little to kiss her. She took her time, giving Jill the out to stop her. When she didn't, Alice pressed their lips together harder.

"We should conserve our energy," Jill murmured, finally finding an objection; she surged to her feet, pushing into Alice.

Resisting the impetus to step back, Alice restrained a laugh. Conserving it might not keep them alive, "I just want to feel something, Jill. Something more than death coming to call."

Some strange emotion flashed in Jill's eyes, then was gone and she smiled a little, "So would I."

-

It was later, sprawled over the scratchy straw-filled tick, Jill half-asleep next to her, that Alice heard the first sounds in the dim evening. She swallowed and turned to kiss her lover awake. If they survived, they could have a celebration.

And if they didn't, there would be no one to mourn them, anyway.

Oh, nice! I like the idea of old-timey zombie apocalypse, and the dialogue is lovely.

Enjoyed this a lot -- the feel of it and the dialogue, especially Jill's which read as so her. Happy to find fic for this pairing!
