so, Iron Man 2

We went to see it tonight.

1. There was lots of Natasha and Pepper. Not enough, mind, but then, the movie wasn't 'Black Widow and her blonde side-kick'. so.

2. I thought it dragggggeed a lot, I don't care about your daddy issues or the villain's daddy issues, or the slimy corporate guy. No, really. sigh. If they'd cut that out, it would have been less draggy.

3. So, all during the movie, when Tony would be like, "Pepper, I want one!" at Natasha, my brain naturally went, "You can't have her Tony, that's Pepper's girlfriend." I WAS VERY DISCONCERTED when Tony kissed Pepper. And then I said to myself, "Oh, right. Pepper's not gay."

4. I'm not sure how to say this, but, I really wish they hadn't dumped the original Rhodey. I liked the new guy, but he brought a different flavor to the role, and it was jarring (I'm sorry, Hollywood, one black dude DOES NOT look like another one).

5. It was sort of hilarious to see SLJ as Nick Fury, and I will die laughing if they do a Nick Fury movie with him as Nick.

6. I need to contemplate Pepper/Natasha some more.

7. Also? I really hate that they cut out the bit where Tony demands a kiss from Pepper and she throws the helmet out of the plane and he jumps out and goes, "You complete me!" because THAT was fucking hilarious.

Yeah. I was very saddened.

[identity profile] mrsdrjackson.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I was also saddened by the change in Rhodey actors. Apparently the original had some contracting issues with the flick, as he wanted a substantial raise. Stupid money getting in the way of excellent fangirling.

Now I want to see Black Widow and her blonde side-kick! XD

[identity profile] vampirehunter85.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I also heard that the dude was, apparently, very unpleasant to work with, so they didn't try over-hard to meet his monetary demands. From what I hear, the whole thing was a very nasty mess.

I've heard conflicting reports on that, so I tend to think some of it is the studio trying to be assholes.

Truth. Don Cheadle did a pretty decent job for having to step into that. Gotta be kinda awkward doing a roll that's already been established by someone else.

Can she be bi? Because PEPPER/NATASHA OMG. My brain, which as a rule does not ship, is going "WELL, DUH!!"

I'm not sure how to say this, but, I really wish they hadn't dumped the original Rhodey.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I mean, yes, Don Cheadle, huge Oscar-winner cachet, blahblahblah. And like you, it's not that I didn't like his Rhodey. But he was definitely not the Rhodey they established.

I saw someone comment to the effect of "Terrence Howard was convincing as Tony's best friend, but Don Cheadle is convincing as both Tony's best friend and an Air Force officer." To which I was like, no, actually, he felt more like a MARINE officer. TH totally felt like an AF jet jock. One black dude does not look like another one, and one military branch's culture is not the same as another.

I missed the helmet bit, but putting in there in my head made the tone of the opening go wonky. So I understand why they lost it. While still pouting about it.

This, definitely.

She can totally be bi. =D

... yeah, wow, SO much. Except possibly for #4.

It really did drag, didn't it? I don't know quite what it was, but the improvisational stuff that worked so well in the first movie just felt... I don't know, kind of lazy and unfocused here?

I actually wondered how long we were going to waste time on stuff, when, really, we don't need to be handheld through points a, b, and c, just put us at point e!

I know! Honestly, it felt almost like executive meddling was assuming that watchers would be stupid.

And really, the cut scene in the opening drop sequence -- you know, the one that was in ALL the trailers? -- would've made the finale just a wee bit more buyable.

I think the shot of them walking up the Expo stairs together? Was hotter than the Pepper/Tony kiss. (Weirdly, though, the bit they cut out with her kissing the helmet and him jumping out and going "You complete me!" was pretty damn hot and I MISSED it.)

Even though Pepper had originally hired Natalie to work with Tony, hoping that the young redhead's attitude would straighten him out,
she found her presence comforting as Stark CEO.

Today Natalie had come in wearing a dress Pepper knew that Tony would have appreciated, Pepper had started to as well.

"Is there anything else, Ms. Potts?" the red shock of curls was poking her head around the corner.

"Well, now that you mention it, Natalie..." Pepper grinned.
Today she would learn how good it was to be the boss.

4. From what I read, Terrance Howard (the original guy) was fired due to being a pain in the ass on set & having to reshoot every scene he was in because he didn't know his lines.

5. As a general rule, I dislike Fury. But SLJ as him is for the win.

[identity profile] nicole-anell.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
I've pretty much decided not to see this until it comes out on DVD.

4. I know, I get that there was some issue with Terrence Howard, but recasting a New Darren when everybody else in franchise is the same always annoys me! It was issue #8,079,540 that I had with "The Dark Knight". And here it just smacks of just substitute another black guy, everything's fine.

5. And I will die laughing if Joss Whedon seriously gets to direct that movie.

7. THEY CUT THAT? It was my favorite thing in the trailer. :..(
