Because I felt like it: Gender-swapped Mission Impossible.

Loosely based on the 89-90 revival series that was intensely awful, but occasionally amusing. A team of agents is gathered to take secret missions to maintain the Status Quo and thwart terrorism in all its guises. Led by a retired agent, the team of youngsters swiftly learns to respect age and experience while carving their own niche in the world of spies.

Jennifer (Jen) Phelps (Kate Mulgrew) - Pulled from retirement, Jen used to run the original MI team and now finds herself facing a world that's gotten a lot more fast-paced and dangerous. It's not the old-style, cold war anymore. But her team is good, and she long ago learned to roll with the punches.

Greta Collier (Zoe Saldana) - Tech wizard. Her mother was on the original team, and she's always felt that she had to live up to that image. Now she's learning that she doesn't have to be everything her mother was.

Melissa Hart (Katee Sackhoff) - Australian boxer, the muscle, cracks awful jokes. (I'm sure I could have found someone taller, Australian and more muscular, but, whatever)

Nicole Black (Naoko Mori) - So, the original, Nick Black, was the ladies' man. I'm pretty sure Naoko has it in her to be the opposite.

Casey Randall (Alex O'Loughlin) - The T&A, seduces all clients. Gets fridged five episodes in, the secretary disavowed knowledge of his life.

Shannon Reed (Joe Flanagan) - The second T&A, all of the women treat him like a brother and tease him about his lack of a love life.

Hahahah. The original is... ok. The 60's version is still somewhat watchable. But the update? OH GOD. It's so so bad. Hilarious at times, but bad.

I watched some of the original and some of the revival. My earliest memory of William Shatner was the first episode of Mission Impossible that I was able to follow.

My favorite bit from the revival was the episode first episode when Greg Morris guest starred. Barney was injured and Grant had to impersonate him for the denoument of the con mission. All the while he's being made up he's telling Barney how much he admired Barney as a child and didn't get enough time with him, and the punchline of the scene is Grant turning back to Barney with Barney's face and saying, "All I ever wanted was to grow up just like you."

I watched an episode with Leonard Nimoy sometime last year.

Oh, man. I think I remember that one, but not a heck of a lot (I've got something like 9 episodes on tape that I occasionally watch).

There was a station when I was growing up that played reruns of Mission Impossible that started with the Pre-Jim Phelps year and went all the way through to the bitter end. It wasn't worth watching past Nimoy's stint.

I still love the episodes with Barbara Bain and Martin Landau. It's so old school Cold War spy cool.

The revival I could never really get into, but a gender swapped version would be fun to see.

Heh. The original isn't awful. It's sort of wonderfully cracky like The Avengers is.

But the revival was... bad. Really bad. It was... occasionally all right. Not that I recognized that, at the time. I was rather young.

Aw, I loved that show. Even if it was really awful.

And I think that Casey is the first time a female character I loved died.
