Apparently, SGA fandom felt lonely.

1. Yesterday was SGA wank day on Fandom Secrets. anti-McShep, misogyny bingo Keller, some idiot raging on about Mary sue Carter, and angsty Carson fans... It was like Fandom Christmas! Though I think the special award goes to the person that claimed Het Shippers are the cause of all Ship Wars. (because Slash Shippers are such special snowflakes and would never dream of such a thing? idk)

2. In Plain Sight was on last night. I should have a reaction post about it, but my brains are still toasty.

3. We're up to... episode 11? On season two of Fringe. I'm... getting a little miffed about how Olivia's kind of not the focus anymore. Astrid still has too few lines (she is so awesome). I don't dislike Walter and Peter, but they're not who I watch the show for (ok, so I watch it for the crazy science and Olivia kicking ass).

4. Speaking of, someone once said that it was nice to see a show focus on a father-son relationship, as they're so very rare on TV. *sarcasm* Yeah, I can only think of half a dozen off the top of my head from recent TV shows.

5. Er, meanwhile, I wrote NCIS RPFS last night. Oops.

Wait WHAT? didn't they see that one coming from a mile away? I mean really?

Oh fandom.

The way I heard it explained was that Merlin was already messing with the legend and so it wasn't unreasonable to believe that they wouldn't go the Arthur/Gwen route. That and people claiming that they weren't familiar with the legends.

To which people responded: o_O?

AHAHAH. I've seen the boyslashers in many a fandom who could out-weight the hetshippers in their cray-cray and OTP wars... And the Merlin thing makes me giggle madly. And often.

[identity profile] the-jackalope.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Fandom should never, never change. It's way to loly.

Fringe has the best wacky science, but it really needs to get back to focusing on Olivia. I was promised a female focus damnit.

I KNOW. It makes me happy that way.

AS WAS I. Even though there was a FS a while back about how they were glad season 2 didn't focus on Olivia. Sigh. So I've been expecting it.

1. I suspect someone was feeling trolly.

2. Nina! We've seen her, like, twice. I don't love her like I do Astrid, but she should still be around. Sigh.

4. Pfft. Mothers are always dead, unless they're there for their Special Little Boys.

I keep forgetting that In Plain Sight is on Wednesdays now. Damn it.

And if Olivia is no longer the focus of Fringe, do I even want to watch season two? The Walter and Peter Show is kind of boring-sounding.

[identity profile] emmiere.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
The Bishop family show is absolutely the most boring thing they do (even loving Walter as I do), but I'd argue that Olivia's still the main focus and gets most of of what character development there is. And there's nothing horrible or characer destroying about it at least, it's the secondary characters like Nina, Astrid, and Broyles that really lose screentime for it, especially later. The 2nd season's much more scattered overall and plotty, but at least they aren't outright replacing Olivia's storyline with the Bishops yet? *hopes*

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
What's really sad is that I liked the way the Bishops were background last season. But now? I wish they'd be shoved back into the corner again as I just don't CARE. sigh.

I'm...trying to convince myself it may not go anywhere horrible every week now, but yeah. Though Peter still needs to be saved a refreshing amount while Olivia doesn't, they also once LET HIM HAVE HER GUN.

They've given him her gun twice now. He shot through a broken windshield the first time and passed out in an elevator the second.

The elevator was the one I was thinking of.

To be fair, the first one at least made sense: Olivia hit the steering wheel, Peter didn't. (so did the second, in a way, it was just silly)

And the episode before 'Peter' and the newest episode were All About Olivia, which made me gleeful, so.

They moved it on us! Sigh. I only remembered because Leverage was on Wednesdays, so I was sort of expecting it.

I... it still has its moments? It might be one of those things where there's lots of ffwding, though it's not as bad as it could be. It's just... little things, like how Olivia used to save the day all the time and now... Peter gets to do that. :/

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2010-04-10 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
however, the most recent episode was All About Olivia. So was the episode before 'Peter' (and 'Peter' was all flashbacky and stuff). SO. The show might be getting better at it.

Though I think the special award goes to the person that claimed Het Shippers are the cause of all Ship Wars

I just about fell out of my chair laughing at that one. Especially since their reasoning was "slash fans are much more open minded" and I got yelled at for not liking McKay/Sheppard. That and all the comparisons to Zutara and how that means Het Shippers are the crazy ones.

2. I think I need to watch In Plain Sight again. It was lovely and Mary made fun of Marshall's name. I hope we get to meet Marshall's family sometime.

ext_18106: (Romana ftw)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Zutara is the new Harmony, I think. *snorts*

But, seriously, yes. "slash fans are so much more open minded/smart/adult" is one of the things I'd like to punch out of fandom.

2. Eeeeee. Yes. And yes, to his family, though I'm not sure they'd survive Mary. =D

That idea has just become so entrenched in slash fandom that it's hard to get people to admit that maybe, just maybe, it's not true. Stupid people.

2. I'd love to see Mary asking them about Marshall. I don't care what, anything he's refused to tell her over the years, and how they respond. Especially as she'll just keep picking at them.

...now I'm going to be really disappointed if they never show up.

O.o That is depressing. *kicks at Fringe* You know, it took almost two seasons for BSG to slide into Men Do Man Things and the Women Sit Around and Look Pretty. Apparently, with Fringe, it only took one.

*sulks*

[identity profile] miera-c.livejournal.com 2010-04-09 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
On #1, I... kinda agree with the first part of the anti-McShep one, as far as the sheer fingers-in-the-ears stubbornness about how it's actual fact and canon, etc. Though I suppose every pairing has it's tinfoil hat squad and I may just have been exposed to more of the McShep variety. *insert disclaimer about how there are perfectly lovely McShep fen here*

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2010-04-09 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah. I actually agree with it a bit, too.

[identity profile] scifiaddict86.livejournal.com 2010-04-09 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
1 Slash shippers really think there just the specialist of the special snowflakes don't they? I would be offended but its just so obviously wanky it makes me laugh.

2. I love the show but there was no Raph/Mary so last nigts wasn't perfect like the premiere. Also I need to do an IPS post, cuz some of the wanking going on at TWOP is just funny.

4. Whoever said this lives unless they meant a functional father/son relationship which is actually somewhat rare these days. Usually dads are the source of all evil, or maybe that's just Lost. The only son on tv I can think of with a mother is Derek Shepard on Grey's.

1. Boyslashers do, definitely. I can't even count the number of times I've seen them proclaim "if you don't like slash, I assume you're a new fangirl and not very bright" or words to that effect.

2. Sadly, I'm pretty sure that's going to the back-burner with the new show-runner. We probably won't hear from Jinx, either. Or Brandi, now she's gone.

4. Actually, I think the Adamas and Bishops are pretty healthy--they have problems, but not insurmountable ones. Adama, for instance, wasn't an alcoholic slut like his wife. (thank you, Ron, and your vendetta against sexually confident blondes)

But the thing about TV is that no one has easy relationships--that doesn't make for good Dramuh, after all.

I hope S3 of In Plain Sight will air in Canada soon. On a channel I can actually get. Global showing it again would be nice.

It could be like the way they used to do SGA (or BBC America does Who), and air it a few weeks afterwards? Fingers crossed, though.
