Quickie review: Burton's Alice in Wonderland
Remember all of the problems I had with Syfylis's Alice? This one kicked them in the nads and danced on the grave.
It was pretty awesome. Alice, the Red Queen and the White Queen drove the plot and were integral to everything. There could have been less Mad Hatter, but I survived him being on my screen without Alice. And Alice did not end the movie kissing some dude.
Bits of it were really pretty.
Also, Alice got to make her own choices. No one told her she had to do things and then she did them. she CHOSE things.
I have no idea why they bothered with 3-D, as it added nothing to it. Really, 3-D should probably die a death soon as it's fucking useless.

Since I now want to see it, would you mind telling me if it had hand-held, wobbly or spinning camera-work? Burton usually doesn't, but everyone's getting into nausea-vision now, and it sets off my vertigo terribly. I would be seeing it in 2D.

Yes to everything you said. It was awesomely woman-centric and Alice was active and made decisions, eeee. On the way out my dad said, "For a minute I thought she'd meet a Johnny Depp double in the 'real' world at the end" and I was like NO YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH.

it takes too much effort to re-focus on the screen. i'm lazy and i want my 2 hours of (mostly) pain free enjoyment, and focusing my eyes constantly is too much work.

And ditto on 3D. It makes my eyeballs feel weird because of messing with my focus, and then I get a headache. Poor depth perception + 3D glasses = fail, apparently.
