how remarkable

1. Your fandom has four women on the side of the angels, one on the side of the demons and a good half-dozen extra on either side with bit parts. You're challenged to write 'women saving the day'. Do you:
a. write any of the five main women doing just that,
b. write one of the bit parts,
c. write about a female cat clawing the face off the one bad woman,
d. write about the women having to manipulate the men into saving the day,
e. write about Avon's Magic Cock.

Answers on a postcard, please.

2. When called on it, do you:
a. ask if the person just can't take a joke,
b. explain that the cat is female, and the challenge didn't specify 'women' (it did, in the 'women saving the day' bit. cats do not equal women),
c. explain that cats are JUST LIKE HUMANS, and so it's totally ok,
d. completely miss the point regarding disfiguring the face of a woman with glee.
e. all of the above.

3. It pisses me the fuck off that in a fandom where there are so many women to choose from, the response to 'women saving the day' has been, in general, to write about Avon's magic cock and cats.

Let's be clear, here, IT DOES NOT SURPRISE ME. Fandom (all fandoms) worship the penis and routinely sideline the women. It's just disappointing when it's Blake's 7 fandom.

4. On another note entirely, if you think Rodney McKay is smarter than Samantha Carter, you're an idiot.

On 1 through 3: ARGLSMASH.

On 4: At least Rodney himself is therefore not an idiot? (Having perhaps said said that on a few occasions, but never for a moment actually believed it.)

I wrote fic. I should post it to the comm, except I sort of stranded everyone but Soolin on Xenon and then she went looking Cally, which may or may not ebtirely fit the theme.

*so confused*

Sam definately is the biznitch. She got me through my math degree. :)

So... cats... are...

Wait.

No.

...what?

I have no who Avon of the magic cock is?

2). It would never, ever be such a horrible, horrible gleefully "got what they had coming" ending for a man if his face had been disfigured? It's an incredibly gendered way to neutralize a female villain.

Also, the whole discussion about women = animals. *headdesk*

Hell, most male villain origin stories BEGIN with facial disfiguration and the badassery takes off from there.

I did think of Two-Face as I typed that. ;) Fiction has a tendency to romanticize men with scars? But gods forbid a woman's face be scarred because her life is then OVER. It's ridiculous to think that just because she's disfigured, she won't come after them with guns and schemes because, hi, she still has her HANDS and her BRAIN.

Or baldness. That was Lex Luthor's original reason for wanting Superman dead.

1. I choose "a". Probably Peri Brown.

2. The question presumes that I answered 1 differently.

3. I, on the other hand, am still often surprised by fandom doing stupid things that I've seen it do before. We're supposed to be smarter than real people, you guys, come on.

4. If McKay were smarter than Carter, he would have succeeded Weir. McKay is intelligent, not smart; Carter is both. Even what's-his-name, Woolsey, is smarter than McKay.

All of a sudden I am not sad about the fact that I've still not gotten around to watching Blake's 7.

On another note entirely, if you think Rodney McKay is smarter than Samantha Carter, you're an idiot.

But, but, it's canon that Sam's smarter. By the end of Atlantis I think Rodney comes a close second, but Sam's still the smarter one.

1-3. I...what? Okay, I want to face-shank people now. See how they like face disfigurement. Except with the shanking, they won't really live long enough to understand it. Pity.

4. McKay smarter than Sam? *laughs hysterically* Oh please. Not even in alternate universes. Sam also has a key ability that McKay lacks: common sense. See also: Trinity.

e. write about Avon's Magic Cock.

You know... it took me a bit to realize you were talking about Blake's 7 and not the cosmetic company. I was wondering when that started coming in the catalog.

But all those points... man, that's horrid and stupid.

[identity profile] sabaceanbabe.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, what? Blake's 7??? Here I expected Supernatural! O_o

LOL ME TOO! My first thought was "oh the SPN fandom's up to shenanigans. Again."

I am so sick of this shit, Lyssie. And I'd say "you have no idea," except you do.
