Red Cap pimping post.

Images behind the cut, some of bad quality, some not. I no longer have a Jo icon, so you get Jenna instead.

Red Cap is about the British army base in Germany, specifically about the Special Investigative Branch and the crimes they investigate.

This is Jo McDonagh. She's the lead, and as much as the series is an ensemble, most of it is from her point of view. She's rash, impulsive, driven and follows her gut instinct. Sometimes, it gets her into trouble. Sometimes, it doesn't. When the series begins, Jo's got a bit of an angsty moment in her past that's been driving her a little hard.

Usually, she's in civilian gear, being an acting sergeant. Sometimes, she's kitted up for the firing ranges.

Did I mention she's fond of guns? She spends most of her off-duty time shooting them.

This is Kenny Burns and Bruce Hornsby. Kenny's the section leader, a master sgt, he's harsh and not entirely pleased with having Jo thrust onto his team by his Captain. Hornsby is a sgt who's rather lovely and adorable.

This is Staff Sgt Phil Roper. He's the romantic hero of the piece, though he's a bit of an ass. Also, this is a shot from series two where he's managed to cut his hair. I'm lazy and didn't find one with it all fluffy. He doesn't like Jo.

And this is Lt. Giles Vicary, their resident rupert. He's fresh out of training, but quite adorable. (ok, and Jo's there, too)

Those are the main cast that transfer on (there's also Thomas Strauss and Cap'n Howard, but I'm really being lazy)

Also in the pilot is Staff Sgt. Maddy who never had a last name. Maddy was a redhead, and didn't get a lot of lines, sadly.

In series one (and two), we get Corporal Angie Ogden, who is lovely and awesome, bright and cheerful.

Series one also gives us Staff Sgt. Neve Kurland. She's ambitious and sometimes not as thorough as she could be--she cuts corners, but not always.

Neve leaves, and series two gives us Staff Sgt. Harriet Frost. She's also ambitious, but she's brash and doesn't let anyone become a friend, too worried they'll undercut her. Even so, she's sometimes right (as often as Jo, really), and she's sort of lovable, after a while.

The women in this show aren't really friends anymore than they're colleagues--everyone pals around at about the same level, I think? But they do talk, and they even discuss work or life (on occasion). The series itself is sort of obsessed with the idea that marriage and the army don't work out so well, and that everyone will cheat given the right circumstances (series two, especially), also, the idea that people will do horrible things in order to survive. On the other hand, there's also heroes and good people.

It's episodic, but it's not a bottle show--stuff that happens in one episode is remembered in the next one, though there aren't any cases that go from one to the next.

The pilot contains some violence, and one unwanted sexual advance (which ends in an elbow in the throat).

Red Cap has never been put on DVD, so the following are rips from the tv, with the watermarks intact. Also, the reason I've never felt guilty at uploading and passing it around. It's been shown in butchered form on BBC America (they have to chop stuff out for the commercials; unfortunately, it suffers a lot for that--most of the Angie and Jo stuff from series one is lost, for instance)

You wouldn't believe how happy you have just made me. One of my Netflix disks showed up broken and I had nothing to watch to avoid football tonight. But now I have Red Cap. Woot!
