*amused*

So, on the one hand, you have people tell you "Don't like, don't watch!"

And on the other, you have people tell you "You can't judge something without having seen it!"

I'd bet the same people have even said both.

So... Where does that leave me? I can't dislike something after I've watched it?

And I'm not allowed to eye up the previews/creators, and decide, "Hey, it's Frank Miller, women will be whores. I think it'll be awful." ?

I certainly did, and that's why I didn't watch The Spirit. I'm told I made a good choice there, but a little part of me kind of wants to see the train wreck.

HAHAHA. Heh. Man. I sort of vaguely want to see it, but, not enough to, like, go looking for it?

Yup, you totally are. I mean those are both just defensive reactions to something people like, right?

True. I mean, to some extent, I DO agree that if something has objectionable content that you know is there that complaining afterwards about (in most cases) the SLASHY GAY BOYS is sort of ridiculous.

Hence me not ever ever watching Dollhouse or SGU or SPN, etc., etc.

I do when I get space pirates. =D (which has nothing to do with my silly post at all, but that was seriously WIN)

Aw, thanks! *blush*

Yes you can judge a show without watching it, the commercials pretty much seal the fate of shows like "Glee" for me.

Go with your gut feeling, it's usually right on stuff.

Why do people get upset when you don't like something they like or like something they hate? Never understood that one.

AHAHAH. See, my reaction to Glee (to sidetrack my post), was "Um. I don't want the updated Fame, thanks." Of course, then I realized one day that Glee is REALLY Kids, Incorporated. =D

I do sort of understand the upset thing. I mean, I love and adore Torchwood and think it's fabulous, but a loooot of people think it's crap. It's sort of disheartening, really. Also, that means there's no one to talk about shit with. (and when I do find people, there's always bashing of some sort, meh)

You're destroying my enjoyment of my thing by having opinions on it that do not conform exactly to mine at all times. Stop ruining my fannish squee with your meta you elitist!

You can make judgments based on material. That's why trailers and previews exist. A professor of mine once commented trailers exist more to tell people that won't want to see it that they don't want to see it more than the other way around.

And its Frank Miller. If he ever pens something without whores in it, the world as we know it will cease to exist. Like in Dogma with God's decree.

Only with whores.

and sometimes, trailers are completely crap at informing a person what they're subject to (Burn Notice, for instance, has horrendous trailers)

What a frightening thought. FRANK. NEVER GIVE UP THE HOOKERS AND BLOW.

Amusingly, nothing. I've just noticed both attitudes a lot over the last few months (Glee, SGU, etc, tend to polarize one way or the other), and the thought has been percolating in my brains for a bit.

I also tend to find myself unable to separate creators from their product, thus, if I know someone's rep beforehand, I'm going to lean a certain way, regardless of trailers/reviews.

Assuming you've read the Short Pack

Whores.Whores.Whores.

That's all I got.
