lyssie: (Alice Carter is not impressed)

I was hallucinating Elvis...

1. SPN was... vaguely amusing last night. One-upmanship for horrific one-liners and 80s sitcom opening credits entertained.

2. Unsurprisingly, Eastwick keeps falling in the ratings. The show hits about 80% of my kinks (amusingly, most of them are my Torchwood kinks), and shows that I actually enjoy tend to get ignored by the population at large. It's been pulled from Hulu and the official ABC site (at least repeat viewings have). Hey, ABC? Not the best way to interest viewers.

3. Amusingly, apparently Eastwick pisses off the bible-thumpers. If only I were a corporate whore, I'd buy more products advertised during the show.

4. I suppose I should go to work.

Ugh, I had to click the link to see what they said about "Modern Family". It doesn't matter how shmaltzy and conventional and pro-family your show is -- if there's ZOMG GAY PARENTS it's an attack on decency. :-/

It's really funny, because the taking power in their lives part actually has very little to do with the witchcraft. It's sort of part of it, but mostly, they're taking power by... living their lives and being bffs with other women.

APPARENTLY THAT IS BAD. idk.

And, no worries, really. I'm not expecting fandom as a whole to love a show with no men in it.

EVERYTHING pisses off the Bible-thumpers. Seriously, they could NOT have tamed the elements in this down any more for network TV (although, omg, STABBY WITH KNITTING NEEDLES). But those folks need poles removed from their collective asses.

Annnnd I am doomed to pick up a third Paul Gross character at this rate. Save me.

I'm trying to imagine how they could have maintained the sneaky magicky air with less magic and failing. or vice versa, with more stuff (a la Charmed, which was all "OMG EVIL MAGIC OF THE WEEK" about it)

HAHAH. Don't do it. Where are you picking him up? Should there be an Eastwick RP?

[identity profile] alryssa.livejournal.com 2009-11-07 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I've liked how they've handled it so far, without giving it that "Ooooh, occulty mystical!" thing; it's definitely more ... okay, I want to say realistic and natural, in that sense. Eleanor is awesome in that respect; to her it's no different than getting out the vacuum to do the floors - it's a part of her lifestyle, not a novelty.

Guh, don't give me ideas. I was going to think about throwing him into a panfandom game at IJ (but people don't seem to really mix there at all, surprise surprise...)

HAHAHAHAH. If nothing else, it is HIGH CRACK laced with Paul Gross chewing the scenery rather spectacularly.

I am trying to come to terms and ending up v. bitter and wanting to kick things.

IT WAS. omg. Eleanor, though I probably have the spelling screwed, there. (also, ALL OF THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE...ahahahahah)

Heh. From that "American Decency" site:

Of course now-a-days when a Christian is portrayed on television nine out of ten times the character will predictably turn out to be a hypocrite, a criminal or a judgmental ogre.

Well, gee, let's look at the real-life Christians we see most often in the public eye, and think about that depiction for a moment... hmm, sounds right to me. Christianity as a single person or church may not be that way, but The Church is doing its level best to look that way.

hahah. yes. I mean, to be fair, that's not a huge percentage? But then again, there are people like my parents, who are liberal as can be, but still frown on teh gay and would think Eastwick is simply awful.

How the hell am I supposed to watch the first few episodes, now? I actually meant to watch this but forgot what with all the stress and chaos this past month. TV. Very low priority.

Pfft. ABC sucks. Sadly, I don't know. :/

[identity profile] alryssa.livejournal.com 2009-11-07 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I can hook you up. *cough* I had a bad feeling it wouldn't hack it, so I've been... *acquiring* the episodes as I go. Let me know.

*sighs* It's okay. I suspect your methods are the same as hours when we completely ignore the TV and don't want to deal with commercials. If they're airing the whole season then it'll probably come out on DVD as a way to recoup costs.

I'd like to think so, but I'm not holding my breath.

Mm. That's what the "other methods" will be for, eh?

[identity profile] thatpalebluedot.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
hmm..should I give Eastwick a try? I adored Torchwood, but I'm trying to go for slightly lighter subject material for a bit...

If you had asked two weeks ago, I would have said it was totally light and fluffy. Now, not so much. It's still fun? But it's a ymmv thing (mostly, the bits where it hits my TW kinks are the tongue in cheek, the outrageousness, the NOT CARING about any of the previous two things, the women being REAL PEOPLE... the women pretty much driving the plot...)

[identity profile] thatpalebluedot.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it super intense like Children of Earth, or just not light and fluffy? cause I'm all for women-centered even if it's a bit more serious...
ext_18106: (Default)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! No. Nothing like that. It's just not all fluffy anymore. I'm not actually sure that it was? But it's definitely not COE-level. More... um... I think the closest TW parallel in terms of tone is Small Worlds?

[identity profile] thatpalebluedot.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, ok, I can handle that. I'll dig around Dramatic eps for it then. I need NO THINKING tv time. :)
ext_18106: (Default)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. The first couple eps are wackily awful and over the top, but also sort of sneaky in their "we want to suck your braaains" ness.
