Hey, does anyone have Jo from Supernatural fic recs? I'm sort of toying with Jo/Kara for the porn battle, and it would be nice if I knew her rather than cobbled her from Faith and Buffy.
I think they made an appearance during season 1, only they weren't called Ghostfacers then. Basically they're a spoof of Ghost Hunters, the real life 'reality' show about a group of people who hunt ghosts. You know, go around with a camera and film haunted houses and all that crap. There was an episode in season 3 that was filmed like it was an episode of 'Ghostfacers' in which they met up with Sam and Dean.

*reads recced fic* Um, is it me, or is that more about seeing Dean through Jo's eyes than about Jo herself? (I'm not necessarily condemning it, but often I see female characters written solely as the lens through which male characters are viewed. Which kind of thing isn't my thing, per se. But it works for a lot of people.)
I kind of wondered if it was my interpretation or something. I mean, and that's not to say that I don't like Jo/Dean, because I really adore that pairing. But this kind of felt more like "Jo thinks about how awesome Dean is" than "Jo and Dean are awesome and couple-y." :(
That's sort of the issue I'm having with most of what I'm reading (I haven't read since last night). This sort of... "Jo is ok, but she shouldn't even be considering Dean as a possible mate because Dean is Special and Dean's bond with Sam is even Specialer"
It sort of reminds me of that fanon about how Sam Carter has just a crush on her CO and how it diminishes and defines her from season four on.
A man and a woman will always have their bond made shallow and trite by the heteronormative values of today's sociey. That's why we should all write about men. Because their bonds aren't heteronormative. Don't you see? We're actually being feminist by erasing women from the picture. It's liberating them!
Well, duh. Because their brotherly bond is awesomer than ANYTHING. It's no wonder that all that fic is about how Jo crushes on them, and is thinking about how angsty and amazing they are.
Because, y'know, siblings don't get used to the idea of their sibs dating. Because that's not life. At all. And families don't expand all the time to include people who weren't born into them.
And Dean would never, ever spend an entire fic thinking about how amazing and angsty Jo is. I mean, wow! Girl whose father died! Whom she wants to feel close to. Who is estranged from her mother. Who is a tough hunter. Who doesn't want to be an ordinary college student, even if she had a chance to.
I mean, jeez, it's not like Dean can relate to someone like that, right? After all, she's not a guy his brother.
Um. Some. I can send you my three Supernatural fics? They're all femslash and crossovers and kind of odd. Plus most of my meager recs:spn section involve Jo. Go figure, right?
