My reaction is still "fuck, YEAH"

1. I doubt I can put into words how ecstatic the Nobel thing makes me. I sort of feel like I won the lottery, I guess.

2. Sadly, my utter, insane glee is diminished by the 90% reaction of "he doesn't deserve it". FUCK ALL OF YOU. With a rusty fucking chainsaw.

Also, if one takes the steps of actually reading the website (OMG READING NOES!), it's clear that the voting and consideration of candidates continues through August. They didn't pick him in February as everyone keeps harping.

I have to admit, I was a little taken aback when I first read about it, and I admit it was because I was thinking he's still really only starting out...

But then I thought about what he HAS accomplished so far, and I think that's actually part of the point. He's changing the global climate, and I almost see it as the world saying: "What you're doing now? KEEP DOING IT."

Hope is a good thing to encourage. :)

I think that most of the sane questioning done, by which I exclude those who'd still bitch if he cured cancer, eliminated poverty and restored full employment, is that he hasn't done enough to deserve it. I've also heard most of those statements ended with the important word "yet".

Which shows an amazing amount of honesty and the understanding of how important this prize actually is.

*thumbs up* It's so good to see SOME positive reactions to this, for frak's sake! Can we bask in the prez/national pride just a little before wringing our hands about how he hasn't Done Anything? (Besides, you know, actually bring more goodwill and reasonable goals to the international table than the US has offered in almost a decade? Besides that?)

Oh, but, you know, it only counts as 'doing things' if he has personally aided Rich White Americans. The rest of the world doesn't count.

Also, clearly, he should be able to fix overnight what it took Bush EIGHT YEARS to fuck up. Yep.

*punches the haters in the face*

[identity profile] kurukami.livejournal.com 2009-10-10 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Right there with you. And I gladly opened up a can of wank debate on my LJ saying much the same thing. You're right in that a lot of contentiousness about the whole thing is "OMG, he hasn't done ANYTHING yet"... except, y'know, he kind of HAS. (http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2009/10/9/791412/-30+-Reasons-Obama-deserves-the-Nobel-Peace-Prize)

So not to worry. I've got your back. : )

I love your opinionism (word) Lyssie......all these years stalking you LOL!
I posted my thoughts ...you probs do not see that. I do not intend to be controversial...just my own thoughts. I saw it on-line and then chose NOT to listen to the 'News' as a previous comment said. I like to think about things and make my own mind up...right or wrong.

I choose in life to act this way..I do not write what I do not live. I should probably message and ask you things I do not understand.

I like his principles, goals, vision, his politics, intellect and his ability to realise the bigger picture. I just feel this prize is for the wrong reason. I feel it detracts from him.
Personally I think it has been awarded to him for something the world is guilty of. Prejudice. NOW they feel smug. SHAME on them.
He....... I am pretty sure will deliver. BUT give him a break and let him make his mark. THAT will be his measure. One which he makes himself..

Sorry for rambling..just a bit conflicted/happy/irked LOL!
x

I was surprised he got it this year, but not arguing that he deserved it, and I'm very impressed by his reaction to it.

Go him, especially if he can build on everything he's done so far.

[identity profile] ellestra.livejournal.com 2009-10-10 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
This what I think about all awards. There are people who do the choosing - they think they had enough reasons to chose him and so he gets the award. There are several billion more people in the world - it's pretty obvious some will not agree. The unhappy are always more vocal then the satisfied. The comments about Literature Prize haven't been much better as far as I saw.

I'm just afraid that this will make it harder for him - the pressure to do something of great historical importance has already been overwhelming. This however great day for USA. It shows how he managed to change the world's attitude towards your country. And how much his policy is seen as a great, positive change by the world.
