In music video news, I finally watched the Beyonce and Taylor Swift videos.

I... ok. Don't take this the wrong way, but, FUCK has the music video industry gotten SHITTY.

Beyonce's Single Ladies vid won best vid of the year... really? It's three scantily-clad women bouncing. wtf. wtf. Also? En Vogue called. They'd like their money for the vids this ripped off. So did Madonna over Lucky Star.

Taylor Swift.... Well. Annie Lennox's 'Walking on Broken Glass' called. it wants its sets and costumes back. Or were those outtakes from the latest Pride & Prejudice remake?

To cleanse my brains, I actually went and watched me some Annie Lennox. eta: and some En Vogue, though I couldn't find the 'never gonna get it' vid on short notice. sigh.

I think the thing about the Beyonce vid is that the dancing is crazy, and a redo of some classic Fosse routines. Not saying it's the best video (I don't watch music videos anymore for the most part) but I did think it was pretty cool looking.

I guess if dance is your thing, it works? I was mostly bored, and the song itself doesn't help. And, again, it's basically an En Vogue video done in black and white (though possibly not with less clothing).

Taylor Swift's was for "You Belong To Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AHzIq_n-DQ)" not "Love Story" (which I think is the one you referenced - Love Story's the one with the Pride and Prejudice costumes). I actually really liked the vid that won - it was cute and adorable and clearly very girly and teenage, but that's her market and exactly what she was aiming for.

Obama is pretty cool, yes. Light sabers FTW.

IIRC correctly, the "Broken Glass" video was pretty much doing Dangerous Liaisons. Which would, I suspect, break the brains of Swift's primary demographic.

I think I stopped watching music videos in about 1996 for a reason. Though part of me thought it was because MTV completely stopped playing them. Which gives a good reason why no one would make cool ones. (Unless you count the rap opera of Trapped in a Closet, which I find lolarious.)

Eddie Izzard is so crazily awesome. I love him even more than I did before, which I always thought would be impossible.

There are actually some decent vids out there (I know I'm biased, but I have this strange adoration for P!nk's vids, especially when there's a chainsaw involved).

And there are videos being made that push the envelope in terms of style and the bangs and whistles they can use. It's just hard to find them, sometimes.
