I blame
prozacpark
spoilers through daybreak and restless, respectively.
The first time Hera Agathon kills a vampire she's thirteen and playing in the woods with a native boy. He's plainly terrified of the creature that bursts out and catches him, the sound of its voice a mad cackle.
Hera yells at it, then punches and kicks, distracting it so it goes after her. She dodges, uses some of the moves her mother's taught her (for when boys or men or worse get too familiar and she doesn't like it). The thing is fast, too fast for a human, almost too fast for a Cylon.
It's happenstance, sheer luck that she grabs a tree branch, smashing it over the thing's head, then dancing backwards.
When it springs forward, impaling itself, she almost laughs at the look of surprise in its eyes.
It bursts into dust, leaving her coughing.
Her friend flees before she can find out if she's all right.
She doesn't know what it was, and telling seems to be useless. No one would believe a pile of dust was a monster, after all. Her mother would ask her, tease her about projection.
So Hera doesn't tell.
