ohgod

I was trying to put together my thoughts on urban fantasy and why I still can't find any to read that I don't end up dropping pretty quick, and--

Logically, my brain suggested that I write a Kara Thrace/Sam Anders urban fantasy.

...

I need to go shopping.

Some Place to be Flying, Charles de Lint. Even my friend's mother who doesn't like fantasy novels enjoyed it.

this probably means you've read it already...

heee. I love de Lint, but he's Heavy, so even though I own it, I still haven't read it (I LOVE his stuff).

::gasps:: But, but... it's my favorite book by de Lint! How can you not have read it?!!!!??!!

De Lint is hit or miss for me, but I love Someplace to be Flying.

The only one I can think of the you might like is Ilona Andrews, though the first book is rather rough. And it's technically post-apocalyptic fantasy...

Own it, love it. Sadly, there aren't that many LIKE IT. They're mostly all "I'm really hot and wear leather pants and have a love-hate thing going with the hottest man in town, who MIGHT be a bad guy, and did I mention my breasts and how I wear leather a lot? And don't you dare open a door for me, I'm a Liberated woman, and oh, I am so HOT."

I want people shooting things and killing demons and vampires and plot. I don't CARE about boyfriends and leather pants. I also would like fairies and elves and dwarves, too.

I keep reading urban fantasies hoping for this precise thing. I almost invariably fail to find it. But I"ll let you know if I do.

Urban fantasy like elves and dwarves in NYC ...?

or like "Sam has no pants"?

I would really fucking love that, actually. Most urban fantasy is godawful (I don't care, I read them anyway), and it would be awesome to read Kara/Sam urban fantasy.
