sleepy update

Went to eye doc. He dilated both eyes, which made driving exceedingly difficult. He also wants to see me again tomorrow, so I'm stuck in St. Louis one more day.

As far as I can tell, a piece of mortar/firework slammed into my glasses, breaking the lens out (the lens is scratched up), and the lens sliced into my eye while the bulk of the debris was mostly impacted against the frames of my glasses (I have a vertical cut on my eyelid that probably came from that, not the glasses).

I'm fucking lucky I was wearing my glasses, and it sort of scares the shit out of me to think about what MIGHT have happened if I'd taken them off earlier in the evening.

The eye doctor today pulled a piece of corneal epithelial that was hanging off one side of the scratch out, too. Didn't feel a thing, since he had numbed my eyes again. Though it definitely helped, since I'd been feeling it a bit, once I was awake. Sort of that dry-eyes-itching thing? Now I don't feel that. Also good, he says my eyes are exceedingly healthy.

The eyesight in my left eye has always sucked, so relying on it isn't exactly a good plan. On top of which, I've got the slice (which is healing, yay), AND the iris is all sensitive to light, so it keeps spasming in the light (which is painful, and also makes driving not fun).

I will drive home tomorrow, though. I miss being home, and I need to not miss ANOTHER day of work (though work was awesome and said to take what I needed).

At least I now know my insurance info.

Ouch! Sounds like you were really lucky there to still have your eye.

Yikes! Thank goodness you had your glasses on! Here's hoping you get better quickly!

I am SO mother fucking glad you went to the eye doctor, I can't even say!

Do you have sunglasses for the drive home?

dude thank the universe for your glasses.

Seconded. Jesus christ. How close to the fireworks were you, Lyssie? That's scary.

Take care. That stuff really hurts. :\ I know you want to come back, but make sure you're really going to be able to deal with that long of a drive before you try it. Better a missed day of work than a Lyssie pancake on the road or something...

Here. Quin says hello. (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2620/3696637067_a015f0d8dd.jpg)

She looks more like she's saying, "That's right. Adore me. Now fill up my food dish." ;)

And seconding what Timey's said - take it easy, Lyss. We like our Lyssies safe and in one piece.

*points up* What this one says. This is definitely a trauma, and you need to be careful and take it slow. The offer from the parents remains, so DON'T push yourself!

Ouch! And thank the gods it wasn't worse than it was. I guess this makes you a Forth of July Casualty then. :::hugs::: Please drive safely getting back home.

OMG, holy crap. Be safe driving tomorrow (today?). Stop and pull over whenever your eye gets twitchy. You know. And yes, thank goodness for glasses.

Having worked many years and currently with ophthalmologists, I'm very glad you had your glasses on. Resting the eye helps it heal way faster from abrasions, don't strain it by staring at the computer or road for very long when you drive if you're determined to do either.

chiming in to say be safe driving home!

[identity profile] stealth-rose.livejournal.com 2009-07-07 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
If you don't have regular sunglasses, get those dorky little curl-up temp ones the eye docs have for when your eyes are dilated.

Speedy healing! I'm glad, too, omg. Though if they give you an eyepatch, you could be a pirate. :)

Please take it slow and take care. I'm so sorry this happened. Good thoughts flying at you.

Crap, crap, CRAP that sounds like a horrifying experience. I'm so glad things weren't worse!
