Vague thoughts on Bionic Woman

So, here's the thing. I just marathonned (with judicious fast-forwarding) through the entirety of Bionic Woman (with Michelle Ryan and Katee Sackhoff). And I have... thoughts.

1. This show could have been good. It falls really flat because they really couldn't decide what they wanted to do with it, and people change from episode to episode.

2. Antonio Pope sucks the life out of any scene. OMG SHUT UP. I doubt it's completely his fault, because the writers are shit at dialog of any sort. The fact that any of them deliver it with a straight face is impressive.

3. I'm going to get tarred for this, but I actually find Sarah Corvus boring after more than one encounter. Seriously? "Help me, I have no emotions, whine whine whine, I killed my sister only you can save meeeeee" is not interesting. You know what would have been awesome? Halfway through that if she'd gotten something less one-note and had kept the crazy and moved ON. Though I give her high marks for giving it movement and flare. Just don't try keeping track of how many times she changes clothes in a day.

4. Lest you be worried, Jaime is also boring. Especially any time her sister is around. Or her boyfriend. OMG SO FUCKING BORING SOMEONE SHOOT ME NOW. So is the grade-a little woman bullshit.

5. No, really, SHUT UP, Antonio. And if you could make Jonas shut the fuck up, too? Awesome. Ruth can talk, she at least shoots things.

6. JAE IS HOT and should actually have more lines and a plot. And more sex with Sarah (because that was at least hot). ALSO ALSO. Jae/Jaime/Sarah? yspls. Ruth can watch and monitor.

7. I can't believe I'm saying this? But more Mark Sheppard and CKR, pls.

8. Nathan is still creepy, but at least he doesn't wipe her brains every week. I do sort of find myself liking him--at least he's an honest creep. Most of the rest of them are crap.

9. There are some really hinky race bits in this show. Biggest one off he top of my head? "That's racial profiling, Ruth." and then she's right. WOW. Way to be "here's a person of non-white descent, they will OBVIOUSLY be a bad guy."

10. All of that aside, it would have been a much better show if it had been about Sarah and Jaime and how they were linked--and how Jaime was made to complement Sarah. Or something mystically crap like that. Because they got injured in the same way--both smashed in by a truck, though Sarah did it on purpose.

Actually, it would'a been sort of awesome if Sarah killing her brat sister had caused a psychotic break.

(yes, I know Sarah seemed one-note, but if they'd actually developed her and given her more than robot-lines....)

11. OTOH. THERE IS SO MUCH FAIL IN THIS SHOW. SO MUCH.

12. OTOH, ZELDA SPELLMAN AS A CIA AGENT. That was sort of awesome and wrong.

13. There were a few times that Jaime goes all cold-blooded killer. I... um. Sort of prefer her, then. If she wants to save the world, she could get better at it.

14. It isn't even, like, cheezily amusing. Sigh.

15. ok. So this one episode is... not half-bad. AND OMG. Jae has this look on his face like, "I'm just here to look at the hot chicks, man." (shockingly, it's the last episode produced)

16. No, I don't really think the show would have gotten better. Not without going back to the beginning and ripping it all out and starting from scratch.

17. I will give BW this: it's not too full of overly-sexualized violence. It's actually a bit prudish, in a way, unless you're a Bad Girl. Then they'll let it all hang out.

All of that aside, Painkiller Jane was the better show. Despite its two clip episodes.

Jaime and the sister were more interesting in the pilot, where they were crammed into a tiny, messy apartment, and the sister was deaf. I never quite warmed to the new sister.

It's hard to warm up to Generic Rebellious Teen Style #4.

Sadly.

I knew that Bionic Woman was going to be a failure when I saw Eick stammering through the basic questions at the Comic Con panel. Someone asked Eick what the plan for the show was and he had no idea and instead made a joke about having two chicks fighting. IMO, neither art nor enterprise will ever be successful if the creators don't know what it's supposed to be. My conclusion from this? Eick is an empty suit.

Also, I'm very heretical when it comes to Sarah Corvus. I think Katee was waaaaay over the top. :::ducking:::

Man. I hadn't known that. But, yes. It is a sign.

The thing is, the first time through, she did seem interesting and awesome. But having watched it again, it's like... not as good. And it's sad and annoying. (like, I think Isaiah Washington is a decent actor, but Antonio? Is shit.)

PKJ = twelve kinds of entertaining. If it had aired at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon on channel 50? It'd still be running. Mind you, it was kind of annoying how the main cast got gutted. SIGH.

I kind of understood the gutting? it was lame and stupid, but they sort of sucked at writing the ensemble.

I do think if they'd had more time, they might have done a better job.

Otoh, I also think Andre should've been played by Samuel L. Jackson.
