Its and it's. Not the same thing.

Your and you're? Not the same thing.

There, their and they're? Shockingly? NOT THE SAME THING.

Names, though? Oh, can we talk names?

Aeryn Sun. Not Erin. Not Son.

John Crichton. There's no Kryten in Crichton. (aside, this makes watching Red Dwarf distracting, at times). eta: am reminded. Also, Creighton, Criton, and Crouton? Also not on.

Cally Henderson? Not Callie. I know there's a Grey's Anatomy chick spelled that way. Stop it.

Leoben Conoy. This is not hard. It's not frelling Leobon. if you're going to insult him, spell it the frak right. eta: and Conroy is not on, either (though I've misspelled it that, once or twice, and probably have at least one fic I haven't found to edit)

Tory Foster. Not Tori. Not Forster. Not Froster. Not any of the other stupid ways you misspell it.

And this. This, THIS, is the one that puzzles me the most...

Laura Roslin. Not Roselin. Not Roslyn. Not Rossalyn. Roslin. Six letters. HOW IS THAT HARD TO GET RIGHT?

Fandom, you fail. A lot.

Roswell fans mostly didn't even bother to spell Tess' name and just, um, used **** for it. Apparently, spelling out her name would've brought unspeakable evil their way or something. *hates*

Dude, seriously? It makes me glad I just watched the show and avoided the fandom.

Wise choice. There are still times when I feel like I need therapy for all the issues that fandom gave me.

Argh, I remember that! The Tess hate in that fandom was out of control. She was my favorite, of course.

I'm at least 50% sure that it was the batshit hatred that made me love her as hard as I did. But yes, she was awesome. <3

The Liz hate wasn't pretty either. There was a lot of hate in that fandom. For the Women, naturally.

What the fuck is wrong with people that they can't look up the correct spelling of their favorite characters' names?

Well, in some case, odds are that they're hated characters. otoh, Teyla's last name has gone through several permutations iirc.

I openly admit that its and it's is, was, and probably always will be a gigantic block in my head.

All the rest? I'm good on.

And don't get me started on B5 names. ;)

And don't forget. It's Leoben Conoy, not Conroy. And D'Anna Biers, not Diana Biers. Zak Adama, not Zack or Zach Adama.

To be fair, one of the sites out there HAD it spelled Conroy for a while. So does some of my fic (I don't remember where it was). (and MM slipped and called him that in one of the outtakes from BSG iirc)

I have a great "It's Roslin, bitch!" icon saved (not mine) that I never bothered to upload. I should get around to using it. That one annoys me the most, because I see so many variations of it. And it does seem to overlap with people who don't like her very much.

YES. And it's not the only time I've seen it.

But the Roslin thing, especially when it's on TONS AND TONS of official merchandise and websites and etc!

Leobon, Leoban... I think I've seen a few others, but those are the most common.

The Roslin thing bothers me more than almost any of the other name misspellings. She's the president! Spell it right!

And Leoben CONROY. That makes me grind my teeth to stumps.

As I said a bit above, there's somewhere out there has it Conroy (and suposedly, there's an outtake or something from Flesh and Bone where MM calls him that)--

And I am pretty sure I have unedited fic out there with the wrong spelling. Finding said fic? Not exactly easy.

Still, sigh. Fandom!

And then in comics fandom, there's the ever-present old chestnut of "Rouge" for Rogue. Oh, Rogue. Why must you be so abused? One thing ReBoot fandom had going for it: If you misspelled Bob, Dot, or Mouse, you had more issues at hand than the inability to spell.

Oh, and "bicep" is not an actual thing. It's biceps. Left biceps, right biceps. They are never singular!

When I was young on the internets, Meres, we had to crawl backwards up a hill in the snow WITH NO SHOES to get a beta reader. DAMN KIDS these days don't know who good they've got it.

Oh, and every time someone uses "impact" as a verb, God kills a puppy. (This travesty extends from people's inability to corrected use "effect" and "affect", which is another problem, YARGH.)

I see "Shepard" for John Sheppard and "Sheppard" for Jenny Shepard. Sometimes "Shepherd" for John. Though with all the Shepards/Sheppards/Shepherds running around TV, it is... sort of understandable. (But "RONON", NOT "Ronan." STILL.)

And all the homophones make me want to kill things. I mean. REALLY. This is all grade-school stuff. But even having a "beta" nowadays means little since betas apparently don't know proper grammar. What's the point of a beta who can't pick up grammar and spelling mistakes?! Are they in it for the title? "I'm a beta, I get props in fics, yayorz!" Bleh.

Yah, the Shepard people make it hard by not all being uniform. (and, dude, GATEWORLD couldn't decide on Ronon's name, FANDOM did)

(Which relieves their poor pathetic brains of the onus of glancing at any of FIVE NOVELS AND A SHORT STORY COLLECTION.) And the things they do to Coreen will break your brain.

I... You know, I might have tried to type it with a Y, but it would have looked WRONG. Or I would have looked it up (since I'd need to do some re-reading, anyway).

I actually cut the book!fans a bit more slack, because I think the 'y' migrates over from "Victory" in people's heads. But, dude, sign! On the office! Every week!

The Callie/Tori thing drives me nuts. I could care less with characters like Zak/Zack/Zach or Kacey/Casey who appear once or twice, but if they're in the credits, you lose major geek cred if you spell their names wrong. *firm nod*

Well, and a lot of places (like on LJ, or ff'net) HAVE the correct spellings! (actually, is Tory one of my interests?)

Yeah, I think at the point where you're writing fanfic about the character, you can shift yourself to look up the spelling of hir name.

But I'll never forget that one about Gius Baltar!

My biggest name misspelling pet peeve comes from the GI Joe fandom. Scarlett's real name is Shana not Shauna. There's this one writer that insists on calling her Shauna. She's been writing for years and still hasn't figured out the right spelling. She claims she's a huge fan, so I don't know why she won't spell her damn name right!

! I don't, off the top of my head, KNOW her real name? BUT I WOULD ASK. And then would SPELL IT RIGHT.

Also the use of 'yea.' Unless it's in the context of a vote on a Senate resolution or immediately preceding the word 'verily.' And it never is.
