Oh, the keyboardanity!

So. What did you all do tonight?

Me, I killed a keyboard.

See, I'd decided to sip my shot of Cask and Cream. Good stuff, too. So, I wasn't paying attention at one point, and knocked it over. It was about a third full when it tipped onto the upper lefthand corner of the keyboard. Crap, thought I. I pulled up the keys and swabbed away the sticky alcoholic beverage using the nearby bottle of rubbing alcohol.

Time passes.

Then, suddenly! My computer goes nuts. I start getting multiple MSIE windows, and they're all going to ABC News. Don't ask ME the fuck why.

And then other things happen. And I can't type with the shift key. I shut everything down.

Pull up keys, find some more booze, clean it up. Wait.

And wait.

Finally turn computer back on. It boots all the way, but the windows key appears stuck. I attempt to get online, in the hopes I can type my problems at someone, and they can offer a suggestion.

No such luck. I mean, there was some, but I couldn't type. At all.

Shut down.

Boot up. Halfway through the boot, a high-pitched beeping noise erupts from the speakers.

Computer goes OFF. Ow. Painful.

Tried one more time. This time, we get to boot into SAFE MODE. Yay. Except I still can't get anything to work, and the mouse cursor went away.

In desperation, I called Drea, knowing, if nothing else, she could ask those online for advice.

And. Yay. Timey suggested I get another keyboard. *worships Timey*

So, I tossed the idea of getting an AOL CD and hopping on from downstairs (on the main phone line. Someone wouldn't have been happy...) and swiped the keyboard off the downstairs computer.

It works, as you can see.

Poor Drea. I think I scared her.

hrm. Later.

I was once in a similar situation. My roommate had spilled a can of coke on my keyboard and neglected to tell me because he didn't think it hurt it any because his game still played fine (a mouse controlled game that just uses the spacebar to pause).

Needless to say, the spacebar was the only key that worked. Oh, the others worked, but weren't the keys they were supposed to be. I took it apart and cleaned it about 12 times until they were all the right ones.

Having had my keyboard at the office go wonky on me recently, my new theory of keyboard fixing is "buy a new one". Of course, the fact that the office paid for it helped...

Funny how most of these situations involve windows machines. hm... :-)

Be glad it was only the keyboard. One of our cats once knocked a vase full of water onto the family computer's monitor, and shorted it out. We finally got it working again, but now everything on it has a greenish tint. *shrugs* Personally I think they should just buy a new monitor, but I guess since that one still works... Ah, well. I don't use it, they do. ^_^

You didn't scare me! You just caught me right as I was about to go to bed. ;)
