Denizens of the Skiffy BSG board (and self-proclaimed Katee Sackhoff fans) who are currently proving that having a vagina doesn't mean you can't be misogynist.

Oh, Skiffy boards... *sigh*

I know, I shouldn't hope for actual intelligence there. It's like expecting a baby to explain the theory of relativity.

What is it about message boards that attract idiots? Is it because LJ is too difficult for most of them? (For example, the Haven, the main XF board, is home to the truly moronic.)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's that there's no modding, and the 'community' is too vast for people to learn how to behave. Hell. Half the stuff they say on that board would have gotten you banned from boards I frequented in comics fandom.

Or you'd have a massive argument/blow-out, and then it would all blow over.

I might also make a suggestion about the median age being far lower than LJ.

[identity profile] bijoux.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Just curious, did they choose this name themselves, or did everyone else just call them that?

Oh Skiffy board, it's been a couple of years since I've ventured there. It's kind of comforting to know the crazies still exist whether or not I'm there to experience their crazy in person. Some things never change, lol.

Chose it themselves, as I recall.

And to be fair, I've seen just as much crap towards Dee from people on LJ. Most of them couch it in sophisticated terms and claim they're being 'objective', though.

WHAT BICEPS? I mean, first movie, SHE HAD NONE. And while they were there in the second movie, we aren't talking a great deal of difference.... Though she was hot (Lena Heady is, too, and I thought I remembered her having decent musculature)

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 05:24 am (UTC)(link)

Lena Headey is too skinny?

Did they ignore the swingset scene in season 1? (I haven't seen any of season 2 yet.)
(deleted comment)

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
On the slender side, but looks like it'd hurt when she punched you. She looked about the same, only with less defined muscles, in Brothers Grimm. (Do not judge me for owning that movie.)

Linda Hamilton had muscles in T2, but wasn't really muscular. Lena Headey is about the same, IMO, only with a few less muscles.

[identity profile] hugamoose.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think she is to skinny ~ I just keep comparing her to the way that Linda played the role and wonder sometimes why they cast her only because she seems to me anyway to different and why didn't they cast someone a bit more like Linda ~ (I have nothing against her at all)
But longer I watch the show the more that she does fit the part and the show is getting better and better IMO ~

Dude. I didn't care for her shitting over Billy for Lee, but overall? Dee was a cool character. Her exit did not fit AT ALL, IMO. But whatev.

Trashing a character isn't cool. Period.

Guess that means I'm really, REALLY frakked. Rose Tyler fan? Check. Gwen? I love me some Cooper. (especially when it's combined with Sato. Double hotness *squee*) Dee? *sobs* Check plus...Maybe I should join Baltar's cult and acquire a few of those free automatic weapons. Looked like there were plenty to go around...

You're safe here, at least. I think. Most people are smart enough not to slag off my girls around here. (and, dude, now I want to go find that body-swap fic someone wrote for [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon. hrm.)

Paula would totally join our side. We are not, after all, crazyboy.

I just. I don't get why you can't either be indifferent, or just like both? What's the point in ripping down women you don't like?

[identity profile] scifiaddict86.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
I find myself wanting to mock the K/L thread incessantly I find ninety percent of what they say hilarious. Like who Sam is the selfish member of the Quad or Kara and Lee aren't going together because the writers are to cowardly to make them interesting as opposed to K/L being just plain old boring. I am restraining my self though mainly because they haven't done anything to me and its really not their fault their idiots. Its something of defense mechanism but I tend to find people who are that wrong hysterically funny. I mean if they can't effectively make sense of a fictional relationship what hope can they have in their real ones. People who "ship" and spend all their time being nasty about the other side are just their to spread misery not have fun like the rest of us. In short Lyssie honey as a survivor of one of the worst fandom feuds around(I was one of the original Jericho Jem shippers), I'm telling you you can't beat these people, you might as well get a few laughs at their expense. Besides one of the things I discovered about people who ship to spread negativity is that they're usually a pack of miserable losers anyway.
ext_18106: (Default)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. See, I never read their thread (unless someone links me to it, and usually I still don't do much but roll my eyes and backtrack).

There'd be no point. They have a very highly stylized view of BSG that has nothing to do with what's actually on-screen.

But, in actuality, the thread that pissed me off was the one about Dee and that spoilery thing from earlier this season.

[identity profile] scifiaddict86.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah well I was just trying to give you some nice general advice, I spent so much energy trying to fight the evil ones of Jericholand I got burnt out on the entire show, I've taken a very different approach to BSG because of that.

Also did you notice Baltar's red headed friend is also named Jean? Apparently Jean= Scary extremely loyal redhead on BSG

I'm sorry, I get cranky when female characters are getting bashed (I'm sort of annoying that way).

Jeanne, according to IMDB. I like Paula better.

Female characters always get bashed more then men ~
