They're called actives. I liked it, it had a self-contained story and also some hooks into a larger plotline. I liked how the Dollhouse operators weren't horrible people despite the creepiness of what they're up to. Echo and Agent Ballard need to meet.
Meh. I thought it was caught midway between mediocre and... hell, I don't know. I just wasn't that drawn to it. It's not the actors' faults, really, it's that it didn't reach out and grab me the way that other stuff has.
Me too. I caught glimpses of it during comercial breaks. Enough to go "OH HI HELO. HI FRED" but yea, unless FNLs is a repeat, or over, it's not enough to pull me away.
I knew that was coming, given the way Fox has been basically shoving Summer and Eliza into horrific commercials going "Look, don't you guys wish you could fuck these two?" *facepalm*
This is what I've been thinking about this show. All the promos, and the basic premise? (Look! They are hot and have no personalities! Live sex dolls ftw!) Ew. Might check it out just to see, but my hopes are not high.
Or why Echo's the show's friggin' McGuffin while some shadowy naked-but-not-objectified* guy is sending her picture to another guy who's investigating her while a couple of guys argue over her mental status as she's doing the "engagement" and Miss (Miss! WTF is it with you and "Miss", Joss Whedon?) DeWitt has to back down because she's secretly a humanitarian at heart.
*Speaking of objectification: if intercutting that boxing match with Ballard's interrogation scene (more men talking to each other!) was meant to even things out even a little bit, it was seriously, seriously pathetic storytelling.
I didn't watch this - kinda forgot it even existed, really, let alone when it was debuting - and I think I'm glad of that.
Hmm... A show about a person who can do anything/become anyone that escapes from benevolent/evil/mysterious company to go on a journey of self-discovery and search for their past?
I think I liked it better when they called it The Pretender.
But The Pretender got to keep his memories, silly! This is all so much deeper and profound because they're brainwashing people! Like in Dark City, except, not as interesting because it's for money!
I hated it. Boring, boring, boring. Predictable dialog. Too much gloating from the personality tech guy about how he can make the Actives DANCE DANCE DANCE with any kind of persona whatsoever. Eliza cannot act. Twenty minutes in I was already rolling my eyes.
You know what pissed me off about the tech guy (other than that he was a guy)?
He's the same character as the one from the reimaging of Bionic Woman. (not the same guy or anything, but--the same skanky creepyness with his copying all their sex tapes so he can wank off to them)
The sad thing is, I'm sure the fandom will be all over him, since he looks like Greg from CSI. (In BW's case, everyone was up in arms about his sexism and bullshit)

I think Joss was on record someplace stating that Fox mucked with this episode, and that the future episodes were Fox executive free.
I'll give it a couple more showings, and at worst, like Leverage and Fringe, it'll move to my "download and watch later" pile.
