I--you guys.

Leverage. I CANNOT DECIDE if it will be merely awful, horribly awful, or actually GOOD. I'm, oddly, hoping for good, because I LIKE Timothy Hutton (OH ARCHIE), but I don't trust the TV market of today to produce something slick and good without ruining it first.

Timothy Hutton, Christian Kane (who looks awful, oh god, ew), Gina Bellman (OMG), and two people I don't know (although Parker gives good eye-roll, there). This cast is awesome-looking, and possibly adorable. And Parker might be Ziva's long-lost American twin or a blonde Domino and Jane is now a con artist (AHAHAHAH). And Timothy Hutton is an INSURANCE DUDE, YOU GUYS. This is like Dark Justice meets Mission Impossible.

Yeah, it's gonna suck. OH WELL.

eta: Leverage is a new TNT show on Sunday night at 10/9central. You can see more (and some really silly cast photos, keep an eye out for their Serious Torchwood Alley shot, minus the black coats) here: http://www.tnt.tv/series/leverage/display/?contentId=39809

Is that starting tomorrow?
I was going to watch it just to see how bad it would be...
(ISTR that I saw an ad for it in the theater of all places.. they've been pimping cable shows for a bit now at the box office)

The sad thing is, I thought it would be a great concept, albeit one already done on Auntie Beeb, I think... some money-sounding word like Greed or somesuch.

But yes, Parker was what mainly caught my eye. Sad, innit?

Yup. And I think we saw an ad before.... damn, um... Oh, right, that horrible Bond thing.

They're apparently playing it sans commercials, which shall be highly amusing.

Well, I know there's Hustle (as someone below mentioned), but some of it is very Dark Justice-y, and of course, Mission Impossible did it all first. There've been others, though, Three, for instance.

Dude, when Tim Hutton was what caught my eye? Nah.

[identity profile] cosmic.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, Gina Bellman. And Timothy Hutton! I may need to watch this. A LOT.

(Also: cut your hair, Chris Kane!!)

YES. The hot will be sizzling.

(I KNOW. Some guys can pull that off, HE SO CAN NOT)

[identity profile] rose-griffes.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
*cries for Christian Kane*

I just want to take out the scissors when I see his hair like that. Some guys can pull it off, but him--not so much.

I KNOW. I was actually complaining about how the cast was pretty, except for that ugly dude with the hair--AND THEN I REALIZED who it was, and I was, "...CHRISTIAN, CUT YOUR HAIR, YOU IDIOT."

I miss early (evil) Lindsey McDonald.

Umm, Yeah. Probably gonna blow and I"m gonna be hooked anyway . Sigh.

The Character bios are horrific! All "broad shoulders" and "lips you'll stare at". Okaaaaay, I get that these are attractive people, really. Let's not make it a parade of body parts. Do people really think like that?

The promo stuff does not fill me with hope. Let's see if the show is better-written than the cliche-bound stuff Tim Hutton is spouting in his character's video.

See, I mostly skimmed them, and picked up that they're planning on giving us our Shipping Notes from the get-go (here's hoping the actors have the chemistry, and the writers aren't annoying about it)

Actually, the promo stuff reminds me of BSG promo stuff: designed to make me roll my eyes a LOT.

[identity profile] dremiel.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, we have the telegraphed Mom and Dad (and Dad has "Issues") and the love triangle. Yawn. I generally prefer to not see it all forced but I'll give it a shot.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
*snicker* Yes. I'm hoping it'll go like the Stargate: Atlantis plans did (the producers/hypers were all "Teyla and John will have a special bond".... which, um, yeah, not so much). Or that the writers know they're being ridiculous and get smarter.

They could be trying for Torchwood, I suppose. That would be fun, if the boys start kissing.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Them, too! I just figure girls kissing is more accepted on US tv, so if boys were kissing, that might actually be... Torchwoody.

I have also just solved the love triangle. Threesome!

[identity profile] wishfulaces.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. But I have to watch. Timothy Hutton! Gina Bellman!

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW. Especially if he's in suits.

[identity profile] dremiel.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my, yes!

A sharp-dressed man, indeed.

[identity profile] wishfulaces.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly! He won't be Archie, but--Timothy Hutton! Dammit.

[identity profile] redstarrobot.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
The trailer looked... ambiguous on the point of goodness versus badness? It did promise some of each. In a somewhat intriguing fashion.

I am hoping that they managed to keep that edge. We shall see. *fingers crossed*

[identity profile] stexgirl2000.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmmm...it kinda reminds me of Hustle (that's the show that was on AMC and was co-produced by the BBC.) Except Hustle was more about the group just straight up making money for themselves.
ext_18106: (Default)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
*nods* I'd wondered if there was something the BBC had done recently in a similar vein. I think it leans more towards Dark Justice with their Robin Hood schtick, and Three, but of course... Mission Impossible did it all first. ;]

I've had the pre-aired pilot on my pc for two weeks and haven't gotten around to watching, maybe I should and report back?
ext_18106: (Default)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Possibly. I think we will watch it, regardless. But warning for the bad would be good?

[identity profile] callmeonetrack.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm hopeful about Leverage and if nothing else am glad it puts Chris Kane back on my TV. The hair...is unfortunate but it's his musician hair I think. Oddly enough I caught just the end of his song on my country music station the other night. I didn't realize he had radio play already.

According to his website, he's got a major label record deal now, and it's his first single.

WTF is with Christian Kane's hair? I cannot be attracted to that...mop. Ugh.
