check, please....
This entry contains spoilers for Angel, season three. If you don't want to read them, spin on.
I was watching Star Trek 2 last night. And realised something. Kirk is Angel. David is Connor. In the scene where they first meet, you can find every piece the writers did for Angel and Connor.
Both men hate their father. David thinks he's the StarShip Captain who abandoned his mother (Carol, honey, why the fuck did you never tell him he didn't know?). Connor thinks Angel abandoned him to a hell-dimension (Not that Holtz would tell him it was all sweetness and light).
Both fathers try to reconnect. Kirk didn't know, but he certainly loved having a son while it lasted. Angel knew, but couldn't get to him.
Both sons fight like dad. Not as apparent in David, but it's there in the ten seconds he's trying to fight dad. Similarly, on Angel, Connor and Angel mirror moves.
There was also that moment when all parties realised who the other was. It was.... sappy. On both shows.
Anyway. This proves one theory. The Angel writers are geeks

Re: Good point.
but in fanfic!
..somewhere in a familiar cemetary a teenage girl faces a teenage boy, swords were drawn...."You ruined Buffy!" the boy screamed..."You like totally messed up Angel!" the girl yelled and stamped her foot in that way spoiled teenage girls do....the boy roared and charged...Klang..Klash...Klang..etc etc filled the air....with the occasional "Die!" and "Ouch that hurt!" thrown in
