BSG, random rewatch Occupation-Exodus

la la la

1. I haven't watched Occupation/Precipice since they aired. There are things that happen in them (like the Cylon women having conversations) that I'd forgotten.

2. Kara's storyline is still the dumbest, most pointless waste of a character ever. It's like they sat down and went, "How do we sideline Starbuck, so she's just another lame female character?" To top it off, I watched the 'attempts suicide' deleted scene, and, jesus. Thank god that was deleted. It's just awful. Bad writing, acting that makes me gag, and horrible staging. I'm also highly offended that I'm supposed to think it's edgy and new and realistic and something no one else has done. Because violence against and captivity of women is totally something that's awesome.

3. That said, fat!Lee takes the second prize in "Stupid Story Ideas".

4. Two of the deleted (no, three) scenes should have stayed: Baltar breaking Caprica's heart, for one. And Dad's talk with Kat (where it becomes clear that he knows she's not Louanne Katraine) was cute and adorable. And the end of Exodus where Lee's demoted. Because, um, some explanation would'a been nice.

5. On a Sam Anders note, it was interesting to watch him sort of take a back seat in the planning of bombing raids and everything else. I wonder if it was because he thought the military was better at it? I'd also point out that when Duck said "Ever since they killed Norah, I got nothin' to live for." Sam flinches. Four months and he's never seen or heard a word about his wife. And then Duck slams him into the ground, ow.

6. D'Anna's storyline should have had ties back through the first two episodes. Although the conversation between her and Cottle is still awesome.

1. Yeah, the Cylon women get to talk to each other. Probably because it's something they can totally sexualize to pander to their key demographic in a way they can't with any of the human women, for whatever reason, but they do get to talk to each other.

<---- That will be the bitter interlude for the evening. ;]

2. Uggh. Yeah, I'd be able to cope with Kara's storyline (though I still wouldn't LIKE it, because does she have to be abused by everyone?) if they had dealt with her coming back from it in any real way, but they just used it as a tool to break her up with Sam and later kill her. Both of which quite upset me! So not okay. And I hate to say it, but it does make Kara/Leoben impossible to accept, um, except when CKR is being charismatic.

3. Heh - yeah, it's somewhat comforting that as bad as Kara or Sam or Laura might get, someone will always be more pathetic. Poor Lee. ;]

5. Wow, I really need to watch again - I've so far only watched the extended ep and the deleted scenes. That's pathetic. Also: SAM! :/

6. They dropped the whole Hera thing with her, which is really too bad.

1. I'm not sure how it could be sexualized when they're talking about genocide. o.O But, otoh. Sigh.

2. There are points where it's almost ok, and then it stops being so, because the Men are out there, being Manly. *grumbles*

3. I'm just. It makes no sense for him, really. And it makes me headdesk as much as Kara's storyline (and, actually, I suppose it was a way to sideline a male character, but, argh).

5. heee. re-watching is always odd. And, yes, Sam. :/

6. Season three makes me want to pull my hair. There is a massive, interweaving plotline that could have been gorgeous on-screen. But it was dumped for titillation and sledgehammers.

1. Well - I think that's sort of the basis of all of Six's relationships. :P

6. I know, man. Season one is that, to me, and season two isn't so bad because they sort of tie up the arc in the first seven episodes and then have mini-arcs, and there are no major loose ends - and season three ... if the first five episodes weren't so good I wouldn't mind the mediocre stuff so much.
