I will never, ever get the McKay love. I don't even get the McKay liking. In fact, my loathing of the character is in proportion to fandom's love affair with him; I swear I must see an entirely different version of the show with a completely different character and actor.

You know, it's really easy to love McKay if you don't watch the show. I'm serious. I read in the fandom sometimes, but have seen less than half a dozen eps of the show. I read and enjoy McShep when I'm in the mood--because the fanon versions of those guys are good together. Fanon McKay is a much more pleasant creature than canon McKay, and probably similar things could be said about Sheppard, only replace pleasant with needy. As a dirty rotten slasher, it works for me--in fanon. This is probably why I have not much interest in the actual show. Among other reasons not relating to my slash goggles, lol.

I always loved McKay when he showed up on SG1. He was such a JERK, and Sam hated him SO MUCH. It was fab.

I'm still convinced that at least half rabid McShepers don't actually watch the show. I've actually seen people admit this or admit to watching a few episodes here and there, but loving fic more. And I say that as someone who doesn't mind reading the occasional McShep fic while wishing for more fanfic diversity.
