I blame
palmetto, for chucking Sword of Orion at me (it was awesome), and thus I had this pop into my head (because Charley Pollard + Jack Carter = BFFs, or something in my head).
No spoilers for either show (OMG, COMPANIONS LEAVE), G. Gen. Er. There might be a tiny smidge of Allison and Jack flirting (it might only read as flirting in my head, though).
Typical of him, really. The Doctor had a way with people, getting right next to them with that charm of his and making them consider him someone they'd known forever. Charley watched the Doctor and his new best friend Henry discuss particle physics, only understanding one word in ten before finally tuning them out. There were plans to make, and alien invaders to stop, or so she'd heard.
"You understand that?" Sheriff Carter asked, shifting from foot to foot and eying the two scientists.
Charley shrugged, "Not really, no."
"You're normal." His face cleared a little, and he grinned.
"I'm not sure whether to be offended by that or not," was her bemused reply.
"Don't be."
"It's a compliment that she's normal?" Allison Blake looked as amused as Charley did. "And what do you consider me, Sheriff Carter?"
"Well, you're normal, but you're Eureka-normal, which isn't normal-normal."
"I see."
Charley shook her head and wondered what the Doctor had gotten them into. She glanced over to where he'd been talking with Henry and frowned, "They've wandered off."
"Maybe they went to annoy Stark."
"But don't we have an alien invasion to stop?"
"If you believe in that sort of thing," Allison replied, "The government isn't exactly thrilled at the concept of real extra-terrestrial origins."
"But isn't it in the handbook?"
Charley blinked at Carter. Ms. Blake shook her head, "What handbook?"
"That one Jo made me read, and then I had to sign that paper..." Jack trailed off and glared, "I didn't have to read it, did I."
"Alien invasions are in your handbooks? I should like to get me one of those," Charley opined, still amused. It could, after all, come in handy. Now, if they could just discover where Henry and the Doctor had wandered off to...
