life in the old dog yet. hold out for our two dozen

Back from the wilds of Texas. It was upwards of 84 when we left. It's 44 in Milwaukee. Sigh. Couldn't they have split the difference and given us 64-degree weather?

Due to weather, our plane was almost an hour late getting off the ground. I prefer delays that aren't while I'm on board the aircraft, so that worked all right, for me.

Have been re-reading To Say Nothing of the Dog and thoroughly loving it again.

I've noticed. I'm rather irritated. It was warm this weekend! I really don't miss the funky weather patterns here.

hah. Yes. Sigh. I would like it to, you know, at least pretend to make it to spring one of these days.

Only 84? almost sweater weather when it dips that low ;)

Plus your delay gave you another hour of not-freezing weather.

What is To Say Nothing of the Dog about?

Well. We were inside ac, anyway.

Time travel. And causality. And cats. Oh, and dogs.

The author is Connie Willis. And if I ever feel the need to depress myself, I will reread my copy of Doomsday Book.

Ah thank you. That will help my search (in the eventual someday that I look for and read this book).

Rereading a book seems like a lot of work to put into depressing oneself.

Y're welcome.

Yeah, but it's the good kinda angsty depressing pain that makes me go "damn, that was good".

[identity profile] mrsdrjackson.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see. That is the kind of depressing pain that is better if you've worked for it a bit.

We had a big rainstorm this afternoon and the temperature dropped like a stone. It's barely 70 now.

Yeah, the storm was what caused the delay--and I'm not surprised it made the temp drop. Sigh.

I adore storms. As long as I'm not flying in them.

MOUSE!

I just looked at your icon for this post. I used to watch that show every day before school. *goes back to childhood*

I love Mouse.

Mmmm, Connie Willis. I adore Doomsday Book (though, as you said, it's depressing - but a fascinating depressing), and To Say Nothing of the Dog is a lot of fun! I'm rereading Passage right now and it's excellent - but depressing, too. Have you read any of her other books? Would you recommend them?

I haven't, actually. I've read 'Fire Watch', which is a collection of short stories. I tried reading one of her other books, but I wasn't in the right mood for it.
