*surfaces a little from B5*

Things.

1. Still sick.

2. Telepath storyline still the most obnoxious and boring thing EVER. I like how these refugees have clean hair, faces and clothes, despite living in an area that probably has little water for showering and soap and the kind of hair products they'd need to keep those locks lovely would be way more expensive than, say, food. I still love that I wanted Byron to die in a fire and... yes. Poor Lyta, used like a condom to make him more human or something.

3. Bester and Psi Corps have no sympathy from me. Dying in a fire would be nice. Bester, at least, I can tolerate.

4. G'Kar = still more awesome than anyone else. EVER.

5. I actually like Lochley, even though she's... abrasive.

6. Also. I just watched Delenn break a man's fingers. *happysigh*

G'Kar, and to a lesser extent, Londo and Vir are who I mainly watch B5 for. Delenn, Ivanova and Lennier come a close third.

I like most of 'em. Bester gets the same sort of toleration Scorpy does. It's the plotlines they sometimes give 'em that I hate. Garibaldi's breakdown/move to Mars? Boring. Lyta's telapth stuff? Boring.

But. Man. I miss Marcus and Ivanova. Siiigh.

OMG YOUR ICON. AHAHAHAHAHAHAH. (I just caught that scene not that long ago)

BE STRONG. Er, even though that's how I ended up getting them (I do have a job, though).

Vir is lovely and wonderful and makes me gleeful.

Dee/Corwin. YES. Hrm. Especially since I get the impression Corwin totally runs the station, now (who else ran it while Ivanova was off messing about with that silly civil war nonsense?). Although Lochley occasionally helps.

The Tory=Lyta thing is scarily apparent, even when watching the Lyta and Byron scenes in fast-forward. True, Byron leads her way more than Baltar leads Tory. But. He shares way way less than she does.

You know that's who was watching Hera. OH DEE.

I loves them both. *pleased*

And RAD sounds like an idiot. Which makes me laugh. I've seen Callis, and he's amusing, if nothing else. (also, when asked to spill secrets about Tricia, he totally wouldn't, 'cause he's scared of her).

I like G'Kar, Lochley, and Delenn a lot!

The whole Psi Corps can get lost in hyperspace. Well, I realize many are young and naively buy the party line crap. But fascists like Bester and his Psi Cops deserve to go up against the wall.

Bester just needs to go out an airlock.

Yeah, remember the telepaths living in Down Below during the first and second season? Weirdos, freaks, and looking pretty scruffy.

I also liked Lochley quite a bit too.

Soon I go rewatch the Fall of Centauri Prime and get my walking in...

Yeah! They did the dirt in the early seasons! I miss it. Sigh.

Whoot!

[identity profile] desert-vixen.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 02:08 am (UTC)(link)

Sometimes I wish they had just stopped with Season 4 and left us all there. They had filmed Sleeping in Light, and I would have been okay with no fifth season.

Lyta... at least she doesn't end up as a brain in a jar, unlike some other telepaths. And she does get a second chance to go with G'Kar.

G'Kar and Londo... it's hard sometimes to watch the beginning episodes where they torment each other, and know where it's ending up.

I loved Delenn, and Ivanova, and Garibaldi, and to a slightly lesser extent, Steven Franklin.

I don't actually mind the fifth season, though there are parts that feel like they'd gotten tired of trying to go for new directions. The Centauri war stuff was interesting, and I do like watching everything fall apart, even though it hurts (in the good way, like Delenn hugging Londo when she knows everything's going pear-shaped)

Lyta and G'Kar striking a bargain is awesome.

And season five is STILL good television and glows BSG out of the water for actual plot and planning and cohesive canon across episodes. Not to mention, characters act and react according to already-established personalities, and not pasted-on things so they can get the emotional poignancy out of the audience.

I might be Bester's only fan. :-P Not as much as Londo & G'Kar, and Vir, oh Vir... that scene with him and Morden's head...

OH YES! "I'd like to be there when they cut off your head and put it on a pike, as a reminder to the next 10 generations that some favors come with too high a price. I would raise my hand, and wave, just like this."

Oh, no no no. I like Bester. In the same way I like Scorpy. I hate his guts, but he entertains me. (This is unlike Ari, who I really do just want to kill so he never ever ever is seen or heard from again)

I'm amused at the concept or Roslin airlocking him, but only because he's Leoben and thus, he'd come back again.

[identity profile] zahdahe.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
G'Kar and Londo Rock. I disagree about Lyta she was a bit blah-blah in the pilot but she started to get a backbone when she ran away from Psi-Corps (Ultra creepy) Bester(Walter Koenig brilliant actor- very versiltile) creeped me out from s1 to s5. The Telepath storyline was a little preachy. But Lyta only came alive for me when dealing with Vorlons, Shadows, G'Kar, Londo and Garibaldi. Lovely Garibaldi outward cynic but a heart of mush when necessary!
Ultimately Babylon 5 is frakking fantastic.

Oh, I actually love Lyta. And her running off from PC was awesome. But the whole Byron thing always struck me as the writers going, "Well... we don't know what to do with her--I know, she can have sex with this guy and fall in love! yay!"

And she was awesome, when they, y'know, gave her things to do that weren't "woe is me I'm an Abused Telepath".

[identity profile] frolicndetour.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
I liked Lockley, except for how she wasn't Ivanova. But OTOH, I'm glad Ivanova didn't have to stick around to get Lyta's plot. Hmm.

G'kar! I'm not sure I've ever gone from hating to adoring a character quite that dramatically.

...I'm so glad they never had a chance to sic Byron on Ivanova. 'course. In my head, Susan just looks him up and down and then airlocks his ass. But.

The funny thing is, yes. In the very beginning, I found Londo, G'Kar, Delenn, etc., rather boring and flat. But they developed, they changed, they're different people at the end of the series (in most ways, better. In some, worse. Sigh, Oh, Londo.). And, yeah, by mid-season two, I love G'Kar. By the end? Probably my favorite (not that I can ever write him worth a damn). And he has to share mental shelfspace with everyone else and sometimes, Susan shoves him off or Marcus does, or--

Sigh.

[identity profile] frolicndetour.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I can never ever pick a favorite character for B5. Sometimes it's G'Kar, sometimes Londo, or Delenn, or Ivanova, or Garibaldi... *sigh* Not Sheriden, or Franklin though. They were a bit dull. But there's no-one I outright hated.

I wonder what B5 fandom was like. There must have been one, but ... there were no ships, besides Sheriden/Delenn. And Londo/G'Kar Can you have a fandom without ships? ;-)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
*chokes* Dude. B5 was one of the first online fandoms. They had message boards and wank wars and JMS talking to them from on high and everything.

And. Susan/Talia, Talia/Garibaldi, Delenn/Sinclair, Lyta/Garibaldi, Lyta/Zack, Sheridan/Garibaldi, Sinclair/Garibadli, Franklin/Garibaldi, Lyta/Franklin, Susan/Frankling, Dr. Hobbs/Franklin....

I'd bet there were ship wars. ;]

[identity profile] frolicndetour.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
OH TO HAVE BEEN THERE!

Yeah, I'd forgotten about Susan/Talia. *sob*
ext_18106: (Default)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
YES. Man. I sometimes kick myself for not being in the fandom back then, because I totally could have! All my friends were into B5, and I was... not.

Tragic. Sigh. Now I want to write silly happy-ending fluffy bunny fic arh.

[identity profile] frolicndetour.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
I was so little, I probably would have been in all the wank wars. I was an opinionated little twerp. Things have changed a great deal, obviously! ;)

Mmm, yeah. Poor Talia.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
And Marcus. :/

(I should go to bed)

(also. we will not talk about how young I was)

[identity profile] frolicndetour.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Didn't Marcus get unfrozen and wind up with a repli-Susan? I should track down that story. I tried once but the magazine JMS published them in is out of print, or something.

Good night!
